Position: Operations Pharmacy Technician (40 hours, Days/Evenings) – Sign on Bonus

POSITION SUMMARY

With intimate knowledge of pharmacy infrastructure, the pharmacy operations technician organizes and supports the peripheral services necessary to maintain consistent operation with limited disruption throughout the outpatient pharmacy department.

While interacting with different professional levels within the department, technicians are expected to ensure the integrity and reliability of day‑to‑day operations, including but not limited to information systems, hardware, and associated substructures.

Technicians provide ground support, quality management, logistical support and counselling to seven different outpatient spaces, and also assist with implementations, projects, and training/development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES Ground Support

Troubleshoot disturbances with pharmacy management systems, automated robotics, computer hardware, interface connectivity, mobile devices, networking, IVR, electronic prescription transmission, telecomm, and related issues that occur onsite submitted through hospital ticketing system.

Ask clarifying questions, recreate or observe events, determine level of impact, identify defining cause, and weigh available solutions.

Perform direct repair or procure replacements if appropriate, or enlist additional resources (vendor, IT, etc.) for resolution. Test effectiveness of solutions directly and determine preventative measures.

Implementations

Supports change initiatives by adjusting work responsibilities due to new structures, processes, requirements, or culture.

Acquires technical and logistical knowledge of multiple systems (Qs1, Sendpro, etc.) to ensure understanding of system processes and integration.

Provides consultation on system configurations to optimize performance.

Creates technical writings and documents for testing and training when vendor documentation is unavailable.

Conducts comprehensive audit of new systems/products prior to go‑live.

Conducts or coordinates staff training on product/system and completes implementation sign‑off and transfer to appropriate teams.

Quality Management

Regularly evaluates pharmacy automation for optimal performance.

Develops reports to monitor shifting patterns in drug usage and makes recommendations for modification to optimize system performance.

Performs physical modification of drug real estate within automated robots.

Audits internal maintenance processes and coordinates vendor maintenance for six separate robotic dispensing systems at five pharmacies.

Manages software upgrades of pharmacy information systems, reviews specifications, identifies benefits, performs QA testing, provides recommendations, and monitors post‑installation activity.

Inspects the multi‑site management system for transaction failures, performs transaction recovery, and provides remedial training to personnel.

Participates in process evaluation, recommends effective changes, and applies approved revisions.

May hold a seat on the Outpatient Pharmacy Quality Improvement Committee, supporting quality initiatives across worksites.

Logistics

Oversees pharmacy management system settings, including user access, store‑level options, workflow settings, and report delivery.

Monitors PDC consumable usage, procures quotes, invoices, and recommends adjustments.

Tracks and allocates printers, workstations, registers, and other hardware under contract.

Physically installs, removes, and disposes of hardware across seven locations, obtaining quotes, POs, and purchasing items.

Correspondent Activities

Connects daily/weekly with six patient‑facing storefronts across the Boston Metro area and one mail‑order facility outside Boston to maintain reliable, effective services.

Builds relationships with traditional and specialty pharmacy teams, addressing inquiries or providing information related to workflow processes, new initiatives, systems, database management, automations, hardware, consumables, software services, or liaising between pharmacy staff and other BMC departments or partners.
