Position: SECURITY ANALYST II IST Information Security

Boston University Information Services & Technology (IS&T) is seeking applicants with diverse skills and experiences to join our innovative and inclusive community as a Security Analyst II. In this role you will respond to cyber security events at the university, analyze data from a variety of sources—including Security Incident and Event Management systems, Endpoint Protection Platforms, Firewalls, Vulnerability scanners, and Intrusion Prevention & Detection Systems—to detect and respond to potential security incidents or vulnerabilities.

You will be part of the Cyber Security Operations Center (SOC), reporting to the Assistant Director of Security Operations and working with the Information Security team on the Charles River Campus. After successfully completing your first 90 days of service, you will become eligible to participate in the University's Hybrid work program.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor, analyze, and process security events to identify and protect university assets.
  • Help process results from vulnerability scans to help mitigate risk.
  • Assist with maintaining security procedures to ensure they remain current.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify and mitigate security risks.
  • Participate in the on‑call duty cycle, monitoring tools and providing 24x7 availability to respond to security events when needed.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated interest and at least 2 years of experience in the cyber security field.
  • Familiarity with one or more security tools such as SIEM systems, vulnerability scanners, endpoint protection software, and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of network protocols, operating systems, and security technologies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, PCI‑DSS, DMCA, and NIST.
  • Bonus: willingness to learn and pursue additional certifications.
Soft Skills
  • Experience using Service Now.
  • Certificates: ITIL, one or more relevant GIAC, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent certifications.
