Network Engineer, IT Support
Job Description
We are looking for a talented and experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our growing, dynamic team in delivering exceptional service to our customers. This role requires applicants to be located in the Greater Boston area, as they will need to be on site as needed about 1‑2 days a week. Candidates must have reliable transportation and may be expected to travel locally to customer sites for support, upgrades and emergency situations.
In this role you will lead support for a large, critical customer environment while also providing expertise to a diverse portfolio of smaller customers and teammates as needed. Your deep knowledge of networking technologies—including Cisco, HPE, and Dell switches;
Sonic Wall, Fortinet, Meraki and Palo Alto firewalls—will be crucial for managing, troubleshooting and optimizing mission‑critical networks. Your contributions will also raise service delivery quality through documentation and process improvement initiatives.
- Incident Response & Troubleshooting
- Quickly assess and resolve network‑related incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
- Proactive Network Maintenance
- Perform firmware updates, patches and upgrades across all network devices.
- Monitor network health and performance, identifying and addressing potential issues proactively.
- Documentation & Process Improvement
- Create and maintain detailed documentation, including SOPs and technical diagrams.
- Develop runbooks to streamline troubleshooting and resolution processes.
- Communication & Collaboration
- Provide timely updates and clear communication to stakeholders during incidents and maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration of network services.
- On‑Call Support
- Participate in a 24/7 on‑call rotation to provide network support when needed.
- Technical Skills
- Switching and Routing – expertise with Cisco, HP and Dell switches, VLANs, trunking and spanning tree.
- Firewalls – hands‑on experience with Sonic
WALL, Fortinet, Meraki and Palo Alto firewalls, policy configuration, troubleshooting, high availability and optimisation. - Wireless & Cloud Networking – experience with Cisco and Meraki Wireless.
- Load Balancing – proficiency with physical and virtual F5 load balancers, configuration and troubleshooting.
- Monitoring – familiarity with network monitoring tools such as Solar Winds.
- Soft Skills
- Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for clear updates and comprehensive documentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in network engineering roles, with a focus on enterprise‑scale environments.
- Proven track record in incident management, RCA and delivering network solutions under tight deadlines.
- Experience with firmware updates, patch management and hardware lifecycle management.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent.
