The Planet Group has partnered with a Boston area firm to locate an infrastructure and network support specialist for a contract position.
The successful candidate will support enterprise infrastructure operations, monitor and maintain network performance, troubleshoot complex connectivity and systems issues, and contribute to ongoing infrastructure modernization initiatives.
This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Candidates must be willing to work onsite for three days a week in the Boston area office.
Responsibilities- Maintain and support enterprise network and infrastructure environments, including servers, virtualization platforms, and networking hardware
- Monitor systems and respond to operational alerts and incidents, including participation in an on‑call rotation
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, connectivity, and network performance issues across multiple environments
- Implement and maintain network security controls, segmentation strategies, firewall policies, and load balancing configurations
- Support ongoing infrastructure improvements and operational initiatives to enhance reliability and scalability
- Automate administrative and operational tasks using scripting and infrastructure automation tools
- Perform root‑cause analysis and contribute to long‑term solutions that reduce recurring incidents
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and environment diagrams
- Collaborate with cross‑functional technology teams to support deployments, upgrades, and infrastructure projects
- 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise network and infrastructure environments
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including Layer 2/Layer 3 technologies, VLANs, VPNs, routing, and network security principles
- Experience working with enterprise networking and security technologies, including firewalls, wireless infrastructure, and switching/routing platforms
- Experience troubleshooting VoIP, video conferencing, and connectivity‑related issues
- Familiarity with ISP services, WAN connectivity, and provider coordination
- Hands‑on experience with Windows and/or Linux server environments and virtualization technologies
- Exposure to public cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is a plus
- Experience with automation and scripting tools such as Power Shell, Python, or Ansible
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
- Experience supporting VMware or similar virtualization platforms
- Industry certifications related to networking, security, or infrastructure engineering are a plus
- Background working in complex, multi‑site enterprise environments preferred
