Overview
The Solution Engineer role at Salesforce is a dynamic, customer‑centric position that combines technical expertise with consultative sales skills. The Engineer partners with clients and internal stakeholders to design, demo, and recommend Salesforce solutions that deliver measurable business value.
Responsibilities- A Solution Engineer plays a pivotal role in aligning innovative strategies to technology solutions within complex accounts. This role focuses on partnering with clients and collaborating with internal team members and C‑level client contacts to drive consensus on multi‑product technology solutions across the various Salesforce product lines.
- Solutions Engineers work on a wide array of assignments including business development, operations and IT strategies, as well as executive‑level product demonstrations. This person assumes the role of trusted advisor for driving innovative solutions forward while also improving business performance.
- Business Problem Solving:
Takes ambiguous and sophisticated business problems and, using research and assessment capabilities, defines the problem, drives innovative ideas, defines the opportunity set, and recommends practical next steps. - Innovation Management:
Brings focus to a client’s decision‑making process by communicating and evaluating solution options, and driving consensus among key collaborators. In some instances, the Engineer helps clients develop new decision frameworks and governance processes that continue to deliver value beyond a particular engagement. - Connect Experiences:
Demonstrates through software demos and rapid prototyping how connected experiences come to life with Salesforce Solutions, including the delivery of executive‑level software demonstrations, construction of future‑state customer journey strategies, and development of long‑term IT roadmaps. - "Solutioning" is fundamental to the SE role. This includes assisting the customer, Account Executive, and Professional Services team with discovery, analysis, and ultimately the recommendation of strategic solutions for the customer by delivering transformational pitches based in live product demonstrations to validate outcomes.
- Discovers the customer’s business needs and positions the best Salesforce solution to achieve those business objectives.
- Builds and presents customized solutions and demonstrations focused on Salesforce products to multiple customer personas, showing how Salesforce accelerates their business strategies and creates a path to value.
- Conveys a deep understanding of the customer’s architecture as it pertains to Salesforce solutions.
- Orchestrates and leads cross‑functional solution guides, and aligns them to the opportunity strategy.
- Develops and delivers the story of the customer experience aided by Salesforce technologies.
- Participates in all appropriate product, sales, and procedural training and certifications to acquire and maintain the knowledge vital to be effective in the position.
- Possesses the ability to travel based on territory alignment and region.
- B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent relevant experience. Experience will be evaluated based on core competencies for the role (e.g., extracurricular leadership, military experience, volunteer roles, work experience).
- Knowledge of related applications, relational databases, and web technology.
- Solid oral, written, presentation, collaboration, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team to solve technical problems in varied political environments.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience.
- Salesforce Certifications.
- Previous experience as a solution/sales engineer for a CRM company or similar technology.
The typical base salary range for this position is $88,970 – $244,510 annually (specific ranges the hiring manager will share).
