Position: Epic Instructional Designer (Beaker)

Position Summary

Under direction of the Training Team Lead, the Instructional Designer trains clinicians on the use of BMC information systems and manages the Epic Training Program for Beaker and other assigned applications. The designer translates workflow strategies into training scripts, coordinates training activities, and develops training materials, job aids, and promotional materials. This specialist works closely with clinical departments to develop training plans, coordinate logistics, maintain training environments and intranet content, and act as a user liaison between users and application implementers.

Responsibilities / Duties
  • Participate in workflow design and system build as a training consultant.
  • Build and maintain training environments to support clinical and business roles, including preparing patient samples and content for the target audience.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality training materials such as classroom curriculum, user guides, presentations, e-Learnings, and lesson plans for assigned application(s).
  • Train and support end users and new employees on the use of Epic applications and related workflows.
  • Solicit feedback from departments, SMEs, and trainees to adapt materials and ensure they reflect current EHR and workflow changes.
  • Diagnose, analyze, and resolve software issues independently or by involving the appropriate parties.
  • Document all aspects of training plans (scope, definition, testing, delivery, support) and coordinate resources for successful implementation.
  • Schedule and conduct new-hire training classes, including arranging Zoom meetings and ensuring materials are ready.
  • Provide on-site user support during implementations and, when required, during non-business hours.
  • Create monthly user-group newsletters to inform staff of system changes.
  • Participate in on-call customer-support rotations and other governance-approved projects with the analyst team and stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in the team environment and enable colleagues to fulfill departmental objectives.
Job Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training experience.
  • Certificates: Epic Certification or proficiency required within the 90-day probation period.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in classroom training, remote learning using Zoom, business systems analysis, or business unit experience working closely with IT to develop, implement, and train systems.
  • Desirable experience in business-process re-engineering or process improvement.
  • Experience organizing, planning, and executing projects from vision through implementation with internal personnel, contractors, and vendors.
  • Experience using tools to create interactive e-Learning, simulation, and assessment content.
  • Experience creating lesson plans and alternative training materials for remote/distance learning.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Epic Certification (or obtained within 90 days).
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Strong presentation and classroom management skills.
  • Understanding of project-management concepts for cross-functional projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in newsletters, project and training documents.
  • Analytical and conceptual skills with a track record of new concept development.
  • Problem-solving ability across multiple business environments.
  • Customer-service orientation and exemplary representative of Information Systems.
  • Ability to negotiate and acquire resources to schedule training with minimal impact on patient care.
  • Multitasking and team-player mindset; flexible, friendly, congenial, and enthusiastic.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and familiar with Workday LMS.
  • Experience with e-Learning modules such as Articulate Storyline.
Compensation

Base salary range: $62,500 – $91,000. The range reflects education, experience, skills, and certifications.
