Private Equity Data Governance – Manager
The Bain Capital Private Equity Data Governance team seeks a Manager to design, implement, and sustain enterprise‑aligned data governance capabilities across a complex, multi‑strategy investment platform. The Manager partners with Finance, Analytics, Operations, and Technology to deliver data quality, metadata, AI‑readiness, and automated reporting solutions that enable transparent, scalable data infrastructure for private equity portfolio management and investor reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain enterprise‑aligned data governance frameworks, including data quality standards, metadata and catalog governance, and regulatory and audit‑ready data controls in alignment with broader organizational governance programs.
- Support the definition and governance of data architecture across the private equity platform, partnering with key business stakeholders to implement data strategies across source systems (deal pipeline, accounting, portfolio monitoring, valuation models) and data lake access layers.
- Drive data quality management, issue resolution, and automated alerting, building reasonability tests and remediation controls to prevent recurrence.
- Administer and advance the data catalog and metadata framework, documenting key data terms, processes, and protocols to create transparency, foster appropriate data use, and support data lineage throughout the data lifecycle.
- Drive AI‑readiness and agentic governance design, identifying opportunities to deploy AI‑assisted workflows, automated monitoring, and large language model–enabled data operations to modernize governance at scale.
- Enable automated reporting and visualization, ensuring data architecture supports accurate, flexible reporting through tools such as Power BI and approved AI/reporting tools across investor and internal management reporting.
- Develop and track data health KPIs and metrics, establishing governance scorecards that measure data quality, process compliance, and reporting accuracy across the private equity platform.
- Serve as a cross‑functional governance partner to Investment and Trade Operations, Finance, Data Analytics & Reporting, Portfolio Management, Investor Relations, and Information Technology, collaborating across peer data governance programs within the organization.
- Reduction in data friction across the private equity platform, including improvements in data availability, timing, and accessibility for downstream reporting and analytics.
- Measured progress in process automation and the elimination of manual, error‑prone workflows across data production and reporting cycles.
- Tangible adoption of AI tools and agentic workflows within governance processes, with demonstrated efficiency gains.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills; credible collaboration across Finance, Operations, Investment Management, and Technology.
- Strong process discipline with the ability to design new processes and improve existing ones.
- A self‑starter with a deadline‑driven mindset and capacity to manage competing priorities in a data‑intensive, fast‑moving investment environment.
- Strong understanding of private equity as an asset class is a plus.
- Proven experience in a data governance capacity, ideally within asset management or financial services; preference for candidates with a primary background in data governance over generalist Finance or Operations roles.
- Curiosity and comfort with AI‑assisted development, including experimentation with AI coding tools and agentic workflow design.
- Eight or more years of experience in asset management or a closely related field, with meaningful tenure in data governance, data management, or a related discipline.
Expected annual base salary ranges from $125,000 to $140,000, with potential discretionary annual bonus and a comprehensive benefits package supporting health, financial security, and overall well‑being.
