The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) Bureau of Family Health & Nutrition (BFHN) is seeking a Tableau Developer to support the surveillance programs in the Division for Surveillance, Research, and Promotion of Perinatal Health, in developing two data dashboards using Tableau. The two dashboards will share data collected through their active, state-wide, population-based surveillance, on birth defects and on neonatal abstinence syndrome, such as incidence, characteristics of the birth person-infant dyad, and related health outcomes.
The dashboard is intended for public health professionals, healthcare providers, policy makers, and the general public.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITIES:
- Design, develop, and maintain Tableau dashboards and reports that meet business requirements and ensure high quality data visualizations
- Work with business users to understand their needs, analyze data sources and develop appropriate data models
- Develop and maintain data pipelines that feed the Tableau server environment & Tableau Cloud
- Perform Tableau Administrative tasks including monitoring, performance tuning, managing tableau users, groups, projects, permissions and security settings.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for all Tableau development work
- Participate in data governance, security, and compliance activities
- Utilize SQL in data analytics to collect, understand, transform, cleanse, store, and share data in a privacy-preserving way (ETL)
- Utilize Tableau Prep builder for data cleaning, transformation, and integration tasks
- Optimize SQL queries to support tableau visualization and reporting.
- Troubleshoot Tableau and SQL related issues and provide timely resolutions.
- Stay up to date with emerging Tableau features and technologies, and propose new solutions to improve our data visualization capabilities
- Identify patterns and meaningful insights from data through qualitative and quantitative analysis, including but not limited to predictive modeling and data mining
- Prepare reports and presentations that accurately convey data trends and associated analysis
- Collaborate with functional areas to develop and maintain performance metrics, measurements, methods, and targets
- Establish standards for data processing and visualization within the program
- Work side-by-side with data & Enterprise architects to define problems, build models, and perform analysis to identify and implement recommendations
- Assist in functional, performance, ADA testing, governance, data quality, training, and documentation efforts.
- Communicate with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements and describe data modeling decisions and data visualization strategies Skills
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of modern enterprise architecture and hands-on experience with Enterprise Application frameworks.
- Skilled at translating business strategy and project portfolio into short and long-term architectural plans, detailed requirements, and models.
- Hands-on expertise designing and developing cloud-native applications and the process of migrating existing applications to the commercial cloud, preferably AWS and Azure.
- Have working knowledge of Risk Management, Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity, IT Security Architecture, and IT Regulatory Compliance.
- The ability to rapidly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies and apply them to improve services or address issues.
- The ability to create estimations of the time and resource requirements for different activities and determine which activities can be completed in parallel and in sequence.
