Job Summary
Every HR team runs on a layer of operational work that includes communications, reporting, documentation, and recurring manual steps. This internship exists to build automation to free the HR team for higher‑value work using AI tools.

You’ll be embedded with the HR team, reporting to the Senior Director of IT & Incubation, with sponsorship from the Chief People Officer and the HR Operations lead. The role involves building AI‑powered tools using Microsoft 365 Copilot and Claude to design, prototype, test, and document functional solutions for HR operations.

Responsibilities
  • Shadow HR team members to map current end‑to‑end workflows.
  • Identify and prioritize high‑volume, repetitive manual tasks and rank them by effort‑to‑impact ratio.
  • Define the build roadmap with sponsors before coding.
  • Conduct IT/Legal data‑governance and threat‑modeling reviews of the roadmap.
  • Develop internal HR tools and automations using approved Microsoft 365 Copilot, Claude, and other IT‑approved tools.
  • Write, review, test, correct, and refine AI‑produced code iteratively.
  • Partner with a TRT engineer for code review on production‑ready work.
  • Build and test exclusively against synthetic or fully de‑identified datasets; no real employee data is used in development.
  • Provide regular progress updates to HR leadership and sponsors.
  • Finalize tools with documentation sufficient for independent operation and maintenance.
  • Confirm a permanent technical owner and runbook for production tools.
  • Deliver a prioritized roadmap of remaining opportunities with effort and impact estimates.
  • Present findings and a 90‑day execution plan to HR leadership.
Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Hands‑on experience building software with generative AI tools; real builds that can be demonstrated.
  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a degree or program in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience via bootcamp or self‑taught paths.
  • Ability to work independently or semi‑independently, owning progress between check‑ins.
  • Strong communication skills to translate between technical and non‑technical HR stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment for handling sensitive and confidential information.
Strong Differentiators (Optional)
  • Experience with workflow‑automation tools such as Power Automate, Zapier, Make, or similar.
  • Hands‑on familiarity with Microsoft 365 Copilot or Claude in a professional or project context.
  • Prior work in HR, operations, or business process analysis.
What You’ll Walk Away With
  • A portfolio of real tools you prototyped, approved, and deployed for the team.
  • Deep knowledge of AI governance, data‑governance, and privacy practices in enterprise HR.
  • Direct access to senior IT and HR leadership and insight into multidisciplinary medtech operations.
  • Endorsements from sponsors that attest to your technical judgment.

Compensation: $18.00 to $20.00 per hour (US, Massachusetts) – guideline; varies by qualifications.

Work Model:
Hybrid with a minimum of 3 onsite days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and one day of your choice).
