What You’ll Do

We are seeking a well‑versed Data Analytics Engineer with expertise in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Power BI, and/or SSRS to support and enhance analytics for Axon software applications.

Location:

Hybrid in office with up to 50% travel. Must be within commuting distance of a hub location:
Scottsdale (AZ), Seattle (WA), Boston (MA), or Atlanta (GA).

Reports to:

Director, Data Integration and Architecture.

  • Develop and maintain data pipelines, models, and dashboards to support business analytics and reporting needs.
  • Partner with public safety client agencies to understand their business processes, organizational needs, and how our products help their digital transformation.
  • Configure system databases to prepare Axon Records and Standards analytics.
  • Author and configure Power BI and/or SSMS reports, dashboards, and analytics for customers.
  • Train public safety agencies on Power BI and/or SSMS reporting capabilities in Axon’s applications.
  • Build tools that support clients in managing and navigating their digital transformation journey.
  • Create training strategies and plans, including instructional materials for customer software.
  • Apply effective instructional design methodologies and technologies related to reporting and analytics.
  • Communicate testing plans, training plans, activities, and outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partner with Axon Academy to develop eLearning training assets and deliver via Azon’s learning management system.
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to assess content and system developments/customization, maintain testing/training materials, and update for clients as needed.
  • Serve as a product subject‑matter expert (SME) in crime analytics and reporting.
  • Optimize data models and queries for performance and efficiency.
  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude, Gemini) to accelerate SQL query development, dashboard building, and data model optimization.
  • Lead complex, multi‑agency analytics implementations end to end with minimal supervision.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
  • Drive best practices for SQL development, dashboard design, template versioning, and data modeling across the team.
  • Serve as the primary technical SME and escalation point for customer analytics issues.
What You Bring
  • 7+ years of experience delivering and/or managing public safety software testing, training, and/or implementation projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently on ambiguous, high‑visibility projects.
  • Experience mentoring or technically leading peers.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in computer science or data analytics (preferred).
  • Proficiency in SQL Management Studio, Power BI, or similar reporting language.
  • Familiarity with AI‑assisted development tools to write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries and build dashboards more efficiently.
  • Deep knowledge of public safety crime analysis (preferred).
  • Top‑notch communication skills and ability to explain concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Exposure to software development and continuous process improvement.
  • Proven success in transforming raw content into informative, engaging, and compelling learning experiences.
  • Ability to write clear copy, instructions, and messages for internal and external audiences, including scripts for audio and video.
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check and maintain confidential and highly sensitive information.
