Job Summary
We are seeking an Oracle Database Administrator to join BNY’s Data & Analytics Solutions (D&A) Database Operations team. This role is responsible for supporting and administering hundreds of Oracle database environments while ensuring performance, availability, reliability, and operational excellence across critical client platforms. The ideal candidate will bring strong Oracle database administration experience, Linux expertise, troubleshooting skills, and a passion for automation, performance tuning, and continuous improvement.
This position is based in Boston, MA and follows a hybrid schedule with three days onsite per week. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM ET with an on‑call rotation that includes after‑hours P1 support and weekend P1 support/change management, and occasional late‑evening shifts when required.
- Administer, monitor, and support Oracle database environments including Oracle RDBMS, ASM, RAC, and related infrastructure components.
- Use Oracle Enterprise Manager and other tools to monitor database availability, stability, and performance.
- Analyze and troubleshoot SQL and system performance issues through query optimization, execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, partitioning, and diagnostic tools.
- Perform database patching, upgrades, migrations, cloning, backup, and recovery activities across Oracle environments.
- Develop and maintain automation solutions using Shell, Python, SQL, and PL/SQL scripting to improve operational efficiency.
- Respond to client requests, production incidents, database issues, and operational support inquiries with timely resolution and communication.
- Configure and maintain Oracle Golden Gate services and manage data replication across client environments.
- Assist with database architecture, planning, and migration initiatives involving Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, or similar cloud platforms.
- Establish and maintain database administration standards, naming conventions, patching procedures, backup strategies, and operational best practices.
- Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure teams, and client‑facing support organizations to resolve issues and support business objectives.
- 5+ years of Oracle Database Administration experience supporting Oracle RDBMS and ASM environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills within complex database environments.
- Strong SQL and PL/SQL development skills for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and performance analysis.
- Experience with SQL performance tuning, including execution plans, SQL traces, indexing strategies, partitioning, and optimization techniques.
- Strong working knowledge of Linux operating systems and system administration fundamentals.
- Experience developing Shell scripts and automation solutions.
- Ability to work independently and manage operational support responsibilities effectively.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
- Flexibility to support rotating on‑call schedules and after‑hours production support activities.
- Oracle RAC administration experience.
- Oracle Exadata administration experience.
- Oracle Enterprise Manager experience.
- Oracle Golden Gate experience.
- Oracle ZFS and Oracle ZDLRA experience.
- SQL Server administration exposure.
- Python scripting experience.
- Experience with Service Now incident, change, and request management processes.
- Experience supporting cloud‑based database environments including Azure, AWS, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
- Experience driving operational improvements, automation initiatives, and process efficiencies.
