Screen heavily for advanced Oracle performance tuning using AWR reports, execution plans, traces, indexing, partitioning, SQL optimization, and root-cause analysis.
Validate strong SQL, SQL
* Plus, PL/SQL, and Korn shell scripting through specific examples of automation, procedures, database refreshes, patching, and operational maintenance.
Confirm Linux diagnostic capability, particularly memory, network, and I/O analysis and the ability to correlate operating-system findings with Oracle performance.
Look for experience with large, multi-terabyte databases and high-pressure production support; supporting a high database count alone is not sufficient.
Require practical basic-to-intermediate RAC experience plus familiarity with ASM and Grid. Do not require Exadata expertise if the candidate can learn it quickly.
Challenge every major skill listed on the resume. Avoid candidates whose stated breadth exceeds the depth they can credibly demonstrate.
Assess independent learning, prioritization, and the ability to manage concurrent incidents through Service Now. The queue may include roughly six P1s at once and more than 100–150 P2s, requiring focus on immediate P1 resolution and prevention of P2 escalation.
Experience:
8+ years of hands-on Oracle Database Administration experience, including Oracle 19c.
Technical
Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in performance tuning, including analyzing SQL plans, reviewing trace files, and understanding indexing strategies.
- Strong Korn Shell scripting capability (Korn highly preferred).
- Proficiency with SQL and PL/SQL for diagnostics and performance analysis.
- Strong working knowledge of Linux operating systems and system administration fundamentals.
- Excellent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills within complex database environments.
