Senior UI/UX Architect – Healthcare

Overview

An organization is seeking a Senior UI/UX Architect to review, edit, and elevate the design and usability of US healthcare applications, with a focus on telemedicine platforms and provider-facing experiences. This part-time consultant role involves evaluating existing interfaces, identifying usability and workflow gaps, and providing hands-on design direction to improve the provider experience within a cloud-based, SaaS healthcare application. Experience with ophthalmology-specific workflows or applications is preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate existing UI/UX design across US healthcare applications, including telemedicine platforms.
  • Provide detailed edits, redesign recommendations, and usability improvements to existing interfaces.
  • Focus on improving Provider Experience (PX) across clinical and administrative workflows.
  • Assess design consistency, accessibility, and usability across web and/or mobile healthcare applications.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and clinical stakeholders to align design recommendations with technical and clinical requirements.
  • Apply healthcare-specific UX best practices, including workflows relevant to telemedicine and virtual care delivery.
  • Provide architecture-level guidance on design systems, component libraries, and UI/UX scalability within a SaaS/cloud environment.
  • Document design reviews, recommendations, and rationale for proposed changes.
  • Use AI-powered design and prototyping tools to support review, iteration, and design documentation.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Senior-level experience as a UI/UX Architect, Designer, or similar role, with a strong portfolio of healthcare application work.
  • Direct experience designing or reviewing US healthcare applications, including telemedicine platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Provider Experience (PX) design within clinical or healthcare workflows.
  • Experience working within SaaS and cloud-based application environments.
  • Strong ability to review and critique existing designs, providing clear, actionable edits and recommendations.
  • Understanding of healthcare usability standards, accessibility considerations, and clinical workflow design.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-powered design or prototyping tools.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present design recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently in a part-time, consultant capacity.
  • US-based.
Nice to Have
  • Experience designing for ophthalmology-specific applications or clinical workflows.
  • Experience with tele-ophthalmology, tele-triage, or point-of-care diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with EHR integration and how it impacts provider-facing UI/UX.
  • Experience working in an early-stage healthtech or AI-driven healthcare startup environment.
