Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Professional Liability Underwriter with 5+ years of experience. Position based ideally in either New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco or Atlanta. This role is open to candidates at the Sr. Underwriter or AVP level. We seek an individual who is hard working, intellectually curious, passionate and always striving towards excellence.
Candidates must have the ability to work independently and collaborate with all levels and disciplines.
- Develop and grow the Construction Professional book of business that includes primary and excess, practice and project specific Contractors Professional and Protective Liability (CPPI) policy.
- Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships nationwide.
- Work closely with underwriting, loss control, claims, and legal teams to evaluate risk and provide solutions to customers.
- Operate in a fast‑paced environment, multi‑task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity.
- Maintain a profitable renewal book.
- Travel up to 20% of the time.
- 5+ years of marketing‑facing underwriting experience ideally in design (A&E), construction professional, or environmental underwriting.
- Strong underwriting acumen.
- Existing regional wholesale and retail broker relationships and/or proven ability to develop same.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Strong communication skills including advanced negotiation, communications and presentation experience.
- BS/BA Degree or equivalent experience.

The base salary range for this position is $125,000 to $170,000, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation is determined by relevant skills, location and experience. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
