This position provides comprehensive support to attorneys in the Trusts and Estates group. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in a similar role and demonstrate strong organizational and case-management skills. The paralegal must be able to support multiple attorneys simultaneously while managing varied and competing priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with trust and estate administration for complex and taxable estates, including the preparation and filing of Massachusetts probate forms.
  • Support attorneys in the preparation of Massachusetts and federal estate tax returns, as well as gift tax returns (experience with Mass Tax Connect  and GEMS software is a plus).
  • Communicate directly with clients, fiduciaries, financial advisors, accountants, and other third parties, including requesting date-of-death valuations, appraisals, and corresponding with probate courts.
  • Provide support in estate planning matters, including client intake, preparation of engagement letters, explanatory correspondence, and funding instructions.
  • Prepare and proofread ancillary estate planning documents, such as durable powers of attorney, health care proxies, living wills, HIPAA authorizations, and basic funding documents.
  • Obtain deeds from online registries and draft deeds, trustee certificates, and homestead declarations in connection with estate planning matters.
  • Calendar, monitor, and track critical deadlines, including probate filings, tax filing and payment deadlines for estates and trusts, and estate plan signing schedules.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a paralegal in a law firm, with a focus on estate planning and/or probate and trust administration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong proofreading abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), document management systems such as Net Documents, and working with PDF files.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to interact with clients, families, and professional advisors in a courteous, professional, and empathetic manner.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills and adapt to evolving workflows.
