Position: Clinical Fellow, Center for Housing Justice & Policy

The Suffolk University Law School Center for Housing Justice & Policy (CHJP) is seeking excellent attorney candidates for a full-time Clinical Fellow position. CHJP is a groundbreaking initiative at Suffolk University Law School aimed at addressing the challenges of the multifaceted housing crisis. CHJP brings together faculty, staff, and students to tackle a wide range of housing issues, including housing discrimination.

The Clinical Fellow will work as a member of the CHJP and the Accelerator to Practice team, which are part of Suffolk Law School’s nationally recognized Clinical Programs. The Fellow will focus primarily on litigation and enforcement of fair housing rights, and will perform a range of duties including, but not limited to:

Responsibilities
  • Representing clients in housing matters, including administrative complaints, state and federal court litigation involving housing discrimination, landlord/tenant disputes, and related civil rights matters.
  • Handling all aspects of litigation, including research, client interviewing and counseling, fact investigation, motions, discovery, settlement, and court appearances.
  • Collaborating with CHJP attorneys on systemic litigation strategies to challenge discriminatory housing practices and advance housing justice.
  • Engaging in community education and outreach by conducting “know your rights” and “understand the law” presentations.
  • Supporting policy advocacy efforts.
  • Supervising and/or mentoring law students working on litigation and enforcement projects (if and as needed).
  • Performing other work, as needed and assigned, to meet Center deliverables.
  • Maintaining accurate case management and timekeeping records in compliance with grant and program requirements.
Qualifications

CHJP is seeking a lawyer with 1-5 years of legal experience, inclusive of experience in a law clinic. Experience in fair housing, civil rights law, and/or landlord/tenant law is strongly preferred. Candidates must be admitted to the Massachusetts Bar. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse client communities, including low-income individuals, communities of color, limited English speakers, and disabled people, with a commitment to ongoing growth.

Candidates must have impeccable professional habits, including efficient time management, thorough follow-through, attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to give and receive feedback. Fluency in Spanish is also preferred but not required.

Hours and Duration

This position is a full-time contract position through February 28, 2027. Continuation of the position will be contingent on future funding, program needs, financial considerations, and the Fellow’s performance in carrying out the position’s responsibilities, as well as adherence to the relevant terms of employment of the University and Law School. This is a hybrid position, requiring a minimum of two to three days per week in the office.
