MODERN MILKMAN
· US
Modern Milkman delivers high‑quality milk, eggs, baked goods, fresh meat, prepared foods, and grocery essentials directly from local farmers and independent producers. All in glass bottles, with less packaging and reduced food waste.
Our US story began at Oakridge Dairy, a fifth‑generation farm in Ellington, Connecticut. We now serve customers across Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, and Ohio, and we are just getting started.
About the roleEvery bottle, loaf, and carton on a customer’s doorstep starts with something arriving at one of our hubs. As Supply Chain Manager you own purchasing and inbound supply‑chain end‑to‑end, guarding inventory replenishment and supplier reliability, translating demand into accurate purchase orders, and reporting inbound performance to senior leadership.
The US business is early‑stage. You will help build the process behind every doorstep delivery, write playbooks, and continuously improve almost everything you touch.
What you’ll do Purchase orders and replenishment- Run human‑in‑the‑loop ordering: review suggested quantities, sanity‑check against seasonality, promotions, trends, growth, and recent supplier issues, and issue POs that reflect reality.
- Create, validate, and issue POs through our ordering systems, ensuring SKU counts, pricing, and delivery dates are correct the first time.
- Adjust orders quickly when stock levels or supplier availability change; prevent out‑of‑stock and over‑stock scenarios.
- Track orders from issuance to delivery; act as first line of defense against late deliveries, short shipments, and no‑shows.
- Serve as day‑to‑day operational point of contact for suppliers, picking up the phone when something goes wrong.
- Respond to hub teams when a truck is late or an order is short, troubleshooting in real time.
- Onboard new suppliers and maintain SOPs covering receiving, returns, quality checks, and exceptions.
- Plan and coordinate stock transfers from the distribution center to hubs and between hubs as needed.
- Own inbound reporting that goes to senior leadership; headline metrics include supplier On‑Time, In‑Full, In‑Quantity (OTIFIQ), waste, donations in dollars, and inbound freight as a percentage of revenue.
- Translate numbers into actionable narratives for senior leaders.
- Build out broader performance picture: van fill, out‑of‑stock, shrinkage, stock turnover; spot patterns and flag them early.
- Run root‑cause analysis on supplier failures and data inaccuracies; propose improvements to internal ordering logic and ways of working.
- Identify manual workarounds and inefficiencies, and fix them; treat process improvement as core to the job.
- Serve as key stakeholder for Ops Tech and help lead development of our MRP, ordering, and inventory tools from sketching workflows to specifying builds.
- Experiment with AI to make tools smarter and faster.
This role suits someone savvy, numerical, and ready to roll their sleeves up. You don’t need prior supply‑chain experience; you must enjoy balancing spreadsheets and spotting errors before they occur.
- Spot incorrect numbers, investigate, and flag them before orders are sent.
- Take pride in clean delivery schedules and zero‑error POs; details matter.
- Act on half‑baked processes without waiting for perfect information.
- Fix problems rather than complain.
- Persistently follow up to resolve supplier delays, missing deliveries, and paperwork issues.
- Communicate warm and direct; people want to call you for help.
Within a year or two, you will:
- Delivery: Take loosely defined problems, scope them, and deliver end‑to‑end, owning processes and related metrics.
- Scope: Meet KPIs and become a go‑to expert in your area.
- Culture: Consistently demonstrate our values and bring teammates along.
