The Supervisor of Maintenance will supervise maintenance and engineering staff, and the repair, maintenance, cleaning, and securing of rapid transit and/or light rail vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
Responsibilities- Use analog and digital systems to develop, implement efficient maintenance staffing, and resource plans; implement and monitor preventative maintenance programs; develop time, cost, and quality standards for productivity; and evaluate personnel.
- Remain current with the MBTA safety plan and outlined responsibilities.
- Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Participate in recruitment, training, discipline, and promotion of personnel.
- Inspect and ensure that inventory levels, equipment, and facilities are protected in a safe operating condition.
- Assume the duties of the Superintendent as needed.
- Ensure the safety of passengers and employees through the enforcement of MBTA standards and policies.
- Communicate with top management and other departments regarding line activities and problems.
- Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and assist at emergencies and events, and/or transport crews or equipment as needed.
- Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or coworker, in a courteous and professional manner.
- Uphold the rights and interests of the MBTA while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
- Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the MBTA.
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.
- Five(5) years of experience in transportation equipment repair and maintenance and/or in the administration of the maintenance and repair of a fleet of transportation vehicles.
- Three (3) years of related experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Effective organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MCRS (Railfocus) or similar tracking system, database, People Soft, and Mainframe applications.
- Have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- Have the ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.
- Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with an adverse workforce.
- Maintain a valid driver's license.
- Successful applicants must have the English language skills required for the effective performance of the position.
