General Description
The Director, Engineering is responsible for guiding Managers and senior contributors in the Engineering Department to achieve departmental and corporate goals. Reports include Level 2-3 Engineering Managers, Principal Engineers, and Level 4 Designers. The role also encompasses responsibilities of the "Associate Director, Engineering," which serves as a pre-step to the Director role.
Deliverables
Essential Duties:
- Contribute to strategic planning aligned with Grantek’s overall goals.
- Lead internal initiatives and cross-functional teams to meet departmental objectives.
- Manage and develop the Engineering Department’s leadership and team capabilities.
- Expand and enhance team skills and size to meet project needs.
Team
Collaboration:
- Coordinate with Finance on contracts and legal matters.
- Support sales efforts with the Client Success Team.
- Work with Marketing to showcase success stories.
- Develop staff through PDPs and reviews with HR.
- Communicate resource needs and project loads with Delivery.
- Maintain client relationships and identify new opportunities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
Performance Management:
- Set clear expectations, monitor performance, and coach staff.
- Mentor employees and conduct regular review meetings.
Department Success:
- Maintain quality standards and analyze trends for improvements.
- Lead strategic planning and budget adherence.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Guide activities towards KPI achievement.
Personal Development:
- Meet regularly with the Senior Director to review KPIs and goals.
- Represent professionally internally and externally.
- Stay updated on industry trends and technologies.
- Adopt new management techniques and contribute ideas for improvement.
- Lead and mentor staff effectively.
Other Responsibilities:
- Promote company culture and staff development.
- Ensure policy compliance and safety awareness.
- Travel and work overtime as needed.
- Maintain individual utilization targets.
