Job Summary

The Superintendent of Everett Shops Maintenance Rail will plan and supervise the overhaul, repair, and manufacturing components of Subway, Bus, Commuter Rail, Support Services, and Revenue Operations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assisting in the overall planning for Subway Operations Maintenance Program.
  • Development and control of the facility's material services and labor budgets.
  • Maintain a workforce to meet the current production demands.
  • Establish priorities, schedule work, assign the workforce, and ensure that work is performed in a safe, timely, and economical manner.
  • Coordinate project scheduling, cost analysis, and the development and implementation of uniform work standards.
  • Assist in the development of the department's operating budget and monitor budget allocation against actual expenditures.
  • Coordinate the design, implementation, and use of automated record-keeping management information systems for the primary repair function at the facility.
  • Ensure that all equipment works in the process and other physical assets under the control are protected and well-maintained.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of short and long‑range facility plans, production schedules, preventive maintenance schedules, and capital improvement plans.
  • Develop and implement criteria for evaluating the cost‑effectiveness of primary overhaul services.
  • Review recommendations for improvements in methods and processes used in the facility, and direct implementation of such improvements.
  • Represent the Main Repair Facility in dealings with Support Engineering and Inspection function (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Design Engineering, and Quality Control).
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures to meet or exceed the department's safety goals and also maintain OSHA voluntary compliance programs through the facility.
  • Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed.
  • Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co‑vendor, in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
  • Respond or report to work as directed by supervisory personnel for emergencies, extreme weather conditions, or any other abnormal conditions that impair service or the safety of service, twenty‑four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
  • Uphold the rights and interests of the authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
  • Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable), and policies of the Authority, including the EEO, Anti‑Discrimination, Anti‑Harassment, and Anti‑Retaliation policies.
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.
Supervision
  • This position will supervise maintenance & repair staff, including Supervisors and Forepersons.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution.
  • Six (6) years of experience in a large machine shop or maintenance and repair shop.
  • Related experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Effective organizational, analytical, multi‑tasking, and time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Database, or People Soft applications.
  • Valid driver’s license in accordance with MBTA policy. Have excellent customer service skills.
  • The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.
