The Senior Director of Related Services is an anticipated vacancy in the Specialized Services department. The incumbency will begin immediately and is expected to be vacant by August 31, 2026. As part of the Office of Specialized Services, the Senior Director will lead the related services team, develop strategic plans, and collaborate with other school and community partners to improve student outcomes.
Responsibilities- Interview, hire, train, and manage over 300 related services staff, including:
- Speech/Language Pathologists
- Occupational Therapists
- Physical Therapists (Adaptive)
- Physical Education Teachers
- Teachers of the Deaf
- Audiologists
- Teachers of the Visually Impaired and Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialists
- Partner with other OSS leaders:
- Manager for Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Senior Program Director for Mediation and 504
- Assistant Directors for Schools and Settings
- Develop proposals for provision of related services in community organizations and guide Early Childhood Department on implementation in the UPK program.
- Establish and manage partnerships with universities and colleges for graduate student placements in speech‑language pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and Teacher of Visual Impairments programs, including MOUs and coordination with Legal and OLA.
- Provide training and supervision for BPS staff to ensure graduate students receive high‑quality services.
- Develop and lead a yearly professional development plan for related services staff, tailored by discipline and aligned with BPS standards, including 54 PD activities and full‑day contract PD sessions.
- Oversee all personnel matters, including daily attendance approvals, leave of absence, and discipline/dismissal recommendations to the Superintendent.
- Ensure timely and responsible use of funds for materials, mileage, and provider purchases.
- Manage ELT time for related service providers assigned to ELT schools.
- Coordinate with Payroll, Business Services—Procurement and Reimbursement, and the Business Office on funding allocation, invoice questions, and contractor contracts.
- Hold and lead JUM meetings and participate in BTU grievance processes when applicable.
- Complete performance evaluations per OHC guidelines for BTU members, Management, BASAS, Paraprofessional, and Guild personnel.
- Identify and secure contracts with staffing agencies, manage contractor timesheets, and sign individual contracts.
- Collaborate with families as partners, HR and Labor Relations, Finance (Budget, Payroll, Purchasing, Contracts), Legal Advisor, community‑based organizations, and staff across the system.
- Perform additional duties as requested by the Deputy Chief of Specialized Services or designee.
- Master’s degree in a related services field
- Certification in Special Education or a related field
- Certification in Supervision or Administration
- Three (3) years of experience providing services in urban special education or related field
- Experience providing leadership and supervision in urban special education or related field
Demonstrated knowledge of special education regulations and best practices
- Experience in special education administration and supervision
- Proficiency in a language other than English
BASAS, Group 12B, 12 months, 225 days.
