Operations and Program Manager - College of Social Sciences and Humanities/Ethics Institute About the Opportunity Job Summary

The Operations and Program Manager will be a member of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) Research Center and Institutes team, working primarily in support of the Ethics Institute. In this role they will work closely with Ethics Institute leadership on operations, as well as with faculty leads on project implementation. Their responsibilities include managing budgets; tracking expenses, multiple accounts, transfers, and reimbursements;

and working with external vendors. The Operations and Program Manager is responsible for personnel administration for the Center/Institute, including hiring, organizing visiting researchers, and ensuring payments. They are also responsible for the planning and implementation of events and programs, tracking and reporting on Institute/Center activities, including grant funded projects, and providing administrative support for the preparation of grant proposals. The Operations and Program Manager will provide monthly reports to the Director of Research Development.

The Ethics Institute is an interdisciplinary unit with a focus on research and education innovation in applied ethics, including AI and data ethics, environmental ethics, social and economic justice, religion and ethics, research ethics, and bioethics. In addition to managing the Institute's day-to-day administration alongside the Director, the Operations and Program Manager will help connect Institute programs, projects, and events with partners throughout Northeastern's global network of campuses, as well as work with student groups and programs supported by the Institute.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Operations and Project Implementation:
    Supports Institute operations and project implementation. This includes working with the Director and Associate Director on Institute operations, including scheduling of projects and programs, maintaining records, organizing meetings, assisting with the preparation of reports and providing additional support as needed. It also involves working closely with the Director and project leaders on project implementation including around event planning and execution, contracts with vendors, travel and lodging arrangements for Institute members and project participants, and providing additional logistical support as needed.
  • Budget:
    Manages the budget for the Institute and for individual programs, projects, and events. This includes tracking expenses and liabilities, reconciling the budget, ensuring timely payment of vendors and consultants, and assisting the Director and project leads in budgeting processes.
