Boston College is a Division One university with approximately 9,500 undergraduate students (7,700 residential), located on 118acres in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, a beautiful suburb seven miles from thecenter of Boston. Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President and Director of Residential Education and Director of Operations, the department consists of 40professional staff members, 22 graduate positions, 192 RAs, and 20 additionalstudent employees.

Basic Function and Responsibility

The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that allresidential life facilities are properly furnished and maintained throughout the calendar year. The day-to-day responsibilities include responding tostudent furniture work order requests, inventory, and the replacement of residence hall furnishings. The Facilities Supervisor provides training and supervision to 15-20 student workers and coordinates the daily work schedulesof all facilities area student workers. As part of a team conductingroutine inspections of residential spaces and ensuring the preparation of the residence halls for occupancy throughout the year, including the preparation ofguest and emergency spaces, the Facilities Supervisor assists in theidentification of safety & maintenance concerns and the communication ofthe same to the work order center, appropriate supervisors, and the Resident Directors.

Areas of Responsibility
  • The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of allfurniture contained in the university’s over 7,700 student bed spaces, in addition to staff apartments, common areas, and lounges.
  • Perform comprehensive inspections of facilities, and ensure all rooms are properlyfurnished, equipped, and ready for occupancy, for both the academicsemesters as well as summer student and conference groups.
  • The Facilities Supervisor assists with maintaining accurate inventory data ofitems in the off-site warehouse and storage locations within the residencehalls and provides recommendations to their supervisor for Residence Hallareas that need upgrades, new furniture, or improvements.
  • Takesin deliveries of large furniture orders and installation of furniture instudent rooms, lounges, and other areas; cuts and hangs shades; changesfurniture inserts, and performs light furniture refurbishing/refinishingas needed. Collaborate with campus partners and external vendors to report, address, and executeevents related to the Residence Halls.
  • Submitnecessary work orders and process work orders from students on a timely basis that pertain to residence hall furniture/blinds.
  • Facility Supervisors provide training and supervision to designated student workers.
  • Coordinate the daily work schedules and assist with interviewing and selection of Residential Life facilities student workers.
