Area Coordinator, Operations

The Residence Life department seeks an Area Coordinator, Operations, to serve as a live-in professional responsible for the vision and operation of multiple residential areas housing 400+ students and support an academically oriented environment while maintaining living conditions which promote student growth and personal development.

Residence Life Operations (30%)
  • Oversee daily operations for three or more residential areas, including MCPHS-managed, shared Colleges of the Fenway (COF) facilities and other leased properties.
  • Maintain accurate housing rosters, manage key distribution and access, and coordinate room changes across multiple residential communities.
  • Manage departmental room change processes to ensure consistency and efficiency across Residence Life operations.
  • Coordinate move-in and move-out processes for first-year, returning, and international students, including staffing, logistics, and communication.
  • Oversee break housing operations, including late stays, early arrivals, and emergency housing.
  • Manage emergency room assignments and related operational logistics.
  • Support maintenance and updates to Residence Life web pages, social media platforms, and student-facing communications.
  • Coordinate summer housing operations, including specialty accommodations, resident engagement initiatives, and Resident Assistant logistics.
  • Manage off-campus housing resources through the Off Campus Partners platform and facilitate related educational programming.
  • Oversee summer storage processes for Resident Assistant staff.
Staff Supervision & Development (20%)
  • Supervise a team of 12 staff members across three or more residential areas, including a Graduate Assistant, 2 Senior Resident Assistants, and 10 Resident Assistants.
  • Provide direct supervision, training, and ongoing support to Graduate Assistants and student staff through regular one-on-one meetings and professional development.
  • Develop and implement onboarding, scheduling, payroll/timesheet, and operational procedures for student employees.
  • Collaborate with practicum Graduate Assistants and campus partners to assess residential programming and student engagement initiatives.
  • Coordinate Resident Assistant recruitment and selection processes, including application review, interview facilitation, rubric development, and candidate evaluation.
  • Design and facilitate training related to equitable hiring practices, student supervision, and Residence Life operations.
Cross-Institutional Partnership (15%)
  • Serve as a liaison for cross-institutional residential partnerships within the Colleges of the Fenway (COF) consortium, collaborating closely with partner institutions to support shared housing operations, student support, and residential community management.
  • Coordinate joint staff training, policy orientation, and cross-institutional programming efforts with consortium partners.
  • Collaborate with partner institutions on break operations, building transitions, and end-of-year turnover processes.
Community & Student Development (15%)
  • Foster an inclusive residential community grounded in accountability, engagement, and student development.
  • Support students in conflict resolution, self-advocacy, and connection to appropriate campus resources.
  • Design and facilitate staff training sessions on topics including crisis response, conflict management, community development, professionalism, and student engagement.
  • Develop programming resources and educational materials to support Resident Assistant success and resident learning outcomes.
  • Create educational signage and communication materials related to residential policies, community standards, and conflict resolution.
Departmental Contributions (10%)
  • Serve on departmental and university committees as assigned
  • Represent the Office of Residence Life at Admissions and campus engagement events
  • Coordinate building-wide programming and community engagement initiatives
  • Assist with the design and procurement of departmental promotional materials and opening event resources
  • Develop and implement roster verification procedures for fall, spring, and summer operations
Student Conduct & Emergency Response (10%)
  • Serve as a hearing officer for alleged Student Code of Conduct violations, adjudicating cases and assigning appropriate outcomes.
  • Participate in the Residence Life on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies, crises, and student concerns, including evenings, weekends, and university breaks.
  • Provide crisis support, case management, and referral to appropriate campus resources.
  • Develop and facilitate staff training on crisis response, emotional intelligence, and bias response.
  • Serve on the CARE Team and collaborate with campus partners to coordinate timely, holistic support for residential students.

Required:

  • Master's degree required; minimum of two years of post-graduate experience in residential life or student affairs
