Rosie’s Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunities, and find security in their lives.

Over the years, we have become much more than a shelter. We are a multi-service community center that not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for thousands of women a year through wide-ranging support, housing, and education services. Rosie’s Place relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding.

OPPORTUNITY

The Director of the Women’s Education Center reports to the Senior Director of Opportunity Programs and plays a vital role in program development, strategy implementation, and growth of Rosie’s Place’s educational services. This role leads the team of Women’s Education Center staff, manages the program budget, and ensures the delivery of high-quality programming that promotes confidence, skill-building, and long-term independence. The Director collaborates across departments and upholds the mission and core values of Rosie’s Place in all program operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Program Leadership & Strategy
  • Design and oversee efficient, guest-centered programming aligned with Rosie’s Place’s mission and values.
  • Ensure programming is aligned with emerging best practices in learner-centered adult literacy.
  • Direct and coordinate curriculum development across a variety of learning experiences, including both onsite and remote learning opportunities.
  • Evaluate and implement trauma-informed service delivery models to adapt to the evolving needs of guests.
  • Collaborate with internal programs to ensure robust referrals.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across all aspects of the workforce development program.
Administrative Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate Women’s Education Center staff through regular individual supervision, team meetings, and annual performance reviews, in alignment with Rosie’s Place protocols.
  • Provide staff with targeted training and development opportunities aligned with individual goals and overall programmatic and organizational needs.
  • Lead the development and ongoing management of the Women’s Education Center’s budget.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, and coverage for all programming and fill in as needed.
  • Oversee the accuracy of data entry and ensure timely submission of all required reports.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality standards and safeguard guest privacy at all times.
  • Actively contribute to the Management Team, modeling leadership and representing the Women’s Education Center in cross-program initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Rosie’s Place policies, procedures and quality standards.
  • Develop and report on annual program goals through regular quarterly updates, and as requested.
  • Represent Rosie’s Place in community settings, demonstrating professionalism and alignment with organizational values.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Opportunity Programs.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of experience in education services, with a strong preference for work supporting marginalized or underserved communities.
  • At least 3 years of experience supervising staff, with demonstrated success in team leadership and performance management.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex and dynamic situations with composure.
