The Vice President, Strategic Planning is a key leader in advancing Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's mission and strategic growth. Reporting to the Senior Vice President/Chief Communications & Marketing Officer, this executive role provides strategic leadership for department and Institute planning, operational excellence, organizational effectiveness and integrated communications planning across the Communications & Marketing Department.
The Vice President leads the department’s strategic planning processes, performance measurement, resource and budget planning, operational integration across the Communications and Marketing Department. Serving as a trusted advisor to Institute senior leadership, this role fosters collaboration across clinical, research, administrative, and business functions while strengthening governance, decision support, and organizational capabilities that improve performance, reputation, and long-term departmental success.
As a member of the CCMO’s executive leadership team, the Vice President of Strategic Planning plays a pivotal in role in aligning communications and marketing strategies, departmental operations, and leadership infrastructure to support Dana-Farber’s institutional priorities. The Vice President also oversees a team that works directly with priority disease and other priority programs to develop and execute integrated communications and marketing plans based on their needs and goals.
Bachelors Degree, Advanced Degree Preferred
15+ years of progressively responsible leadership experience in strategic planning, communications, marketing, healthcare administration, consulting, or related executive roles.

- Lead strategic planning and integrated communications alignment
Develop and oversee the Communications & Marketing Department's strategic planning process, ensuring alignment with Dana-Farber's institutional priorities and long-term objectives. Translate organizational goals into actionable departmental strategies with clearly defined initiatives, milestones, accountability structures, and measurable outcomes. Monitor progress against strategic priorities throughout the year. Lead discussions across cross-functional teams to prioritize initiatives and support effective resource allocation in support of institutional and departmental goals.
- Provide executive oversight of integrated strategy, program management, and departmental operations functions:Provide direction to leaders responsible for development, execution and implementation of comprehensive, cross disciplinary communications and marketing plans for priority clinical and other priority programs, remaining adaptable to evolving organizational priorities and goals. Ensure effective project intake, prioritization, cross-functional coordination, and consistent delivery of high-quality strategic communications and marketing support in a complex, matrixed environment.
Oversee initiatives to develop and refine departmental systems and infrastructure.
- Foster enterprise collaboration and strategic partnership
Build strong collaborative relationships with executive leadership, clinical and research leaders, administrative partners, and business stakeholders throughout the Institute. Serve as a strategic advisor on planning, prioritization, organizational effectiveness, and ensure leaders and stakeholders receive regular updates, strategic assessments and clear visibility into progress, priorities and emerging needs. Work to ensure communications and marketing plans are integrated across departmental specialties.
- Drive operational excellence and resource management
Lead department-wide operational planning, including budget oversight, resource allocation, workflow optimization, and organizational effectiveness initiatives. Oversee resource planning and budget management, ensuring funds are allocated effectively. Continuously evaluate departmental systems, processes, and governance structures to improve efficiency, reduce redundancy, and support scalable growth. Identify opportunities for operational innovation and implement best practices that strengthen organizational performance.
