The Holocaust Museum Boston seeks an inaugural Director of Development to lead its development function as the Museum completes its $110 million capital campaign and prepares to open in spring 2027.

Reporting directly to and collaborating closely with the President and CEO, the Director will oversee fundraising, membership, and external engagement while building the strategies, systems, and relationships necessary for long-term philanthropic sustainability.

Job Requirements
  • Partner with the President and CEO to successfully complete the Museum’s $110 million capital campaign, securing remaining commitments and cultivating new principal gift prospects.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of 75–100 principal and major gift prospects through cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and closing.
  • Build and lead a unified development function encompassing fundraising, membership, events, and external engagement.
  • Collaborate with the President and CEO and Board on donor strategy and the cultivation and solicitation of six- and seven-figure gifts.
  • Establish scalable development systems, metrics, dashboards, reporting practices, and a disciplined moves management program.
Job Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive development leadership experience, including major gifts, campaigns, donor relations, and events.
  • Demonstrated success securing major and principal gifts of six figures and above and building strong donor pipelines.
  • Experience building development departments and establishing organizational systems, workflows, policies, and procedures.
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams, with experience in a growth or start-up environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise using Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT for moves management, forecasting, reporting, donor strategy, campaign management, analytics, and executive dashboards. A bachelor’s degree is required; CFRE certification is preferred.
Compensation

The salary range for this position is $150,000–$175,000.

About the Holocaust Museum Boston

Opening in spring 2027, the Holocaust Museum Boston will be New England’s first and only museum dedicated to Holocaust education. Located in downtown Boston across from the Freedom Trail and the Massachusetts State House, the Museum will use immersive exhibitions, personal testimony, and innovative educational programming to preserve the history and lessons of the Holocaust and illuminate their relevance today. As the signature project of the Holocaust Legacy Foundation, the Museum will foster critical thinking, ethical reflection, and civic engagement while confronting antisemitism and promoting human dignity.
