Multi-Line Extruder Operator – 3rd Shift
Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is seeking a 2nd Shift Multi-Line Extruder operator at our Turners Falls, MA manufacturing facility. The operator will set up tubing, semi-pressure and pressure processes on extruder lines, including multi-head/tandem and multi-extrusion lines, various printers, and jacket a wide range of short run, heavy/large wire, cable, and braided products.
Salary: $22.63–28.03 per hour, 3rd shift differential $3.00 per hour.
Job Duties- Work from shop orders and requisitions, move heavy wire reels to take-off apparatus, and properly mix components and chemicals to maintain stability in footage, lengths, wall thickness, and die/leader sizes.
- Schedule production, selecting shop orders to consolidate runs for best efficiency and to meet time requirements.
- Set up extruders, placing and adjusting dies and leaders, obtaining and maintaining proper temperatures, speeds, and feeds; ensure cleaning of heads, screws, and barrels.
- Operate marking and printing machines to apply identification numbers, stripes, or legends to extruded wire/cable; operate multiple pay-off and take-up units per shop packet or wire size.
- Perform visual and tactile checks and take samples according to specifications; operate testing equipment and perform tests for concentricity, OD/, elongation, adherence, and other required tests.
- Monitor operations continuously and make adjustments to water trough, speeds, feeds, and other variables to meet quality and quantity parameters.
- Detect and report defective materials, improper compounding, malfunctioning equipment, and unusual conditions to supervision; maintain equipment and work areas clean and orderly.
- Work a flexible schedule as required.
- High School diploma or GED with basic math skills.
- 3+ years progressive manufacturing experience directly related to extrusion preferred.
- Ability to use judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions on set-ups and operations of multi-head/multi-line extruders to meet quality specifications, quantity, and schedules.
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs., push, pull large reels, and stand for long periods.
- Continuous mental and visual attention to detail, manual coordination, and ability to perform repetitive work while remaining alert.
