Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Cleans and inspects all process equipment for conformity to federal and state sanitation laws and plant standards in an efficient manner.
- Directs cleaning of equipment and work areas, including periodical checks of CIP equipment that does not get broken down daily, to check for effectiveness of cleaning.
- Works closely with chemical consultant in reviewing chemical usage and operating procedures as well as keeping abreast of new technology.
- Inspects premises for unsanitary practices and conditions.
- Maintains and keeps updated all chemical cleaning procedures.
- Maintains a Master Cleaning schedule to address non-routine cleaning duties.
- Works closely with Quality Assurance and Production mgmt regarding any sanitation concerns.
- Confers with management and production personnel on sanitation problems, and recommends changes in equipment, plant layout, lighting, ventilation, or work practices to improve sanitation standards and effectiveness of process.
- Compiles required reports regarding regular inspections, sanitation violations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies. Routes reports to designated plant personnel.
- Responsible for completing required paperwork accurately and honestly as applicable.
- Must adhere to all corporate GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), established SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and all Food Safety policies.
- Must adhere to all Allergen control programs and procedures as applicable.
- Responsible for reporting suspicious packages, activities and individuals.
- If monitoring CCPs (Critical Control Points), must be trained in HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and adhere to approved HACCP plan(s).

- Directly supervises a sanitation team of approx. 24 staff. Carries out these responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training permanent and temporary employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Maintains time and payroll records.
- Is able to perform activities of workers supervised.
5-10 years of related experience with process equipment sanitation. Including exposure to all requirements of Microbial control and chemical and workforce safety. Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Also must possess the ability to write routine reports and correspondence, as well as speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Basic mathematics skills, including the ability to calculate ratios and percentages, are required.
