Job Description

The Content Acquisition Specialist will oversee the strategic direction of special content and develop and maintain a healthy pipeline of ideas and ongoing projects by working closely with Editors, Publishers, and other Content Acquisition Specialists/Managers internally and with external editors and top researchers in different subject areas. This role is fundamental to ensuring and driving content growth within the respective portfolios.

Additionally, the Content Acquisition Specialist also:

  • Increases journal visibility through social media promotion, conference activities, virtual events, and webinars.
  • May track and escalate other journal-related performance issues (ethical issues, Guest Editor performance).

The Content Acquisition Specialist has experience with commissioning, understands the business, and is comfortable working across various subject areas with the ability to commission at scale.

They are involved in commissioning strategy, but can also identify opportunities and share leads with EiCs, Publishers, and other members in the Strategic Content Acquisition team. They have a good knowledge beyond their SME and a basic network across several subjects and work with other teams to develop workflows and tools for at-scale commissioning.

Job Responsibilities
  • Driving strategic content acquisition, including identifying and cultivating ideas and ongoing projects that align with our objectives.
  • Maintaining meticulous attention to detail and quality, ensuring the excellence of acquired content and projects, while continuously refining content acquisition strategies for maximum impact.
  • Utilizing analytical skills and data-driven insights to inform decision-making, with proficiency in tools like Excel.
  • Gathering intel and providing data analysis required to solicit special content ideas.
  • Building and nurturing relationships within research communities across several subject areas, leveraging networking skills to foster engagement and collaboration.
  • Initiating and overseeing multiple projects concurrently, demonstrating strong organisational and prioritization abilities.
  • Representing the company and journal portfolio by attending conferences, workshops, and events (online or in-person in your region) to engage with the research community.
  • Working on team-level projects to improve efficiency or scalability of the commissioning activities.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with the research community or an STM publishing organization.
  • Preferably hold a higher degree (PhD or MSc).
  • Strong analytical skills and experience making data-driven decisions.
  • Skilled at networking with the ability to build relationships within research communities, persuasion and influencing skills.
  • Detail-oriented and results-driven, with strong organisational and prioritization skills to initiate and track multiple projects concurrently.
  • Willingness to travel, especially domestically.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
Location and Compensation

Remote, MA, USA.

Salary Range: 46,400 USD to 66,400 USD.
