The Director of Membership & Engagement is responsible for leading the Alliance's membership growth and retention strategies while overseeing marketing, communications, digital media, and technology initiatives. This position develops and implements programs that enhance member value, promotes the Alliance through strategic communications and marketing efforts, and manages the organization's website, membership database, and technology systems. Working collaboratively with staff and external partners, the Director ensures that the Alliance's communications, digital presence, and membership services support the organization's mission and strategic objectives.
InternalRelationships
Reports and receives strategic direction from the CEO. Collaborates closely with the Director of Business Operations on organizational initiatives. Provides guidance and delegates appropriate responsibilities to the Membership & Operations Coordinator. Works collaboratively with all Alliance staff to ensure effective communication, successful project implementation, and achievement of organizational goals.
External RelationshipsMaintains regular communication with members, prospective members, vendors, sponsors, consultants, advertisers, technology providers, and other external stakeholders. Represents the Alliance professionally while fostering positive relationships that support membership growth, organizational visibility, and strategic partnerships.
Key Responsibilities Membership- Develop and implement membership recruitment, engagement, retention, and renewal strategies.
- Manage the Alliance's membership database, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and reporting capabilities.
- Generate membership reports and analytics to support organizational planning and decision-making.
- Develop, administer, and continuously enhance member services, benefits, and engagement programs.
- Collaborate with staff to identify opportunities to increase member participation and satisfaction.
- Develop and execute marketing and communication strategies that promote the Alliance's mission, programs, services, and events.
- Manage the creation, publication, and distribution of member communications, newsletters, directories, promotional materials, and digital content.
- Oversee branding and ensure consistency across all print, digital, and social media communications.
- Manage advertising sales and marketing initiatives related to the Alliance website, digital properties, online career center, publications, and member directories.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop marketing campaigns supporting membership, educational programs, sponsor ships, and organizational initiatives.
- Lead the design, content management, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Alliance website and other digital platforms.
- Evaluate, maintain, and recommend improvements to the Alliance's technology systems, software applications, and digital services.
- Coordinate and manage relationships with IT consultants, website developers, software vendors, and other technology service providers.
- Support the implementation of new technology solutions that improve operational efficiency and member experience.
- Monitor website performance, digital analytics, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with the CEO and staff to support organizational goals and strategic initiatives.
- Maintain current knowledge of association management, membership trends, marketing best practices, and technology developments.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for leadership as requested.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Associate degree required;
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in membership services, marketing, communications, customer service, or association management.
- Experience with membership databases, CRM systems, and reporting.
- Strong understanding of marketing/communications principles, digital communications, and member engagement strategies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and cloud-based business applications.
- Experience managing websites and digital content using content management systems (CMS).
- Working knowledge of, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar software preferred.
- Experience coordinating with industry business solution vendors.
- Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and vendors.
