Position: Communications Coordinator (Contractor Position)

The Communications Coordinator (Operational Readiness) is responsible for supporting the Deputy Director of Customer and Community Transition in the development, coordination, and implementation of strategic communications and programs relevant to the roll out of the MBTA's new fare payment system. This role will help educate and support the MBTA’s internal and external customers and communities. The Coordinator will also assist in the planning and execution of department projects, ad hoc administrative requests, and take on other administrative duties as needed.

This is a term-limited and project-specific contractor position that is not employed directly by the MBTA. This hybrid position requires being in the office at least two (2) days per week.

  • Develop a variety of different content to support communications efforts, including emails, newsletters, website, materials, FAQs, and presentations.
  • Assist with the preparation and organization of project information, training materials, and instructional processes.
  • Monitor and assist with the management of numerous project timelines to ensure milestones, priorities, and deadlines are on track for completion.
  • Create communications templates, building a resource toolkit for recurring initiatives and inquiries.
  • Build a project management plan and manage tracking system to organize all communications projects and assets.
  • Coordinate volunteers, support staff, vendors, and more to support community events.
  • Respond to and support all MBTA staff requests regarding information related to projects.
  • Develop a content review and approval process for stakeholders to foster collaboration and deadline compliance.
  • Utilize industry best practices and familiarity with the organization's mission to inspire ideas and content.
  • Adhere to brand style guides, customer-facing terminology and other relevant policies for external communications and marketing.
  • Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

  • Available to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
  • Available to work as per assignment by the MBTA twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as directed by supervisory staff for severe weather conditions, emergencies or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service.
Supervision
  • No direct reports.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of experience in supporting the development of written communications for a professional organization.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with different objectives simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently, asking questions and for guidance from supervisor as needed.
  • Ability to occasionally work outside of regular working hours to support communication and education-related initiatives in the field.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement/coordination in a transit environment.
  • Experience in developing and implementing large-scale communications and/or community organizing.
  • Experience supporting communications efforts in a public sector or community-facing environment.
