Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting, preserving, and enhancing the Charles River and its watershed. As we grow and tackle more environmental issues, CRWA relies on community engagement to expand our reach and foster environmental stewardship and action across the region.
CRWA is seeking enthusiastic, community-oriented individuals to serve as Community Representatives who will help raise awareness about local environmental issues, share information about CRWA’s mission and projects, and engage residents in actions that support a cleaner, healthier Charles River.
This is a non-exempt, part-time weekend position with a flexible schedule that will vary monthly and seasonally based on opportunities. This is an ideal position for someone passionate about the environment, comfortable interacting with the public, and excited to represent CRWA at community events. Community Representatives will report to CRWA’s Volunteer and Outreach Manager.
Responsibilities:- Share information about CRWA’s mission, projects, and advocacy priorities with the public
- Lead hands-on education demonstrations, such as our Watershed in a Box activity
- Encourage community members to participate in CRWA initiatives and volunteer activities, and sign up for our newsletter
- Track and report outreach hours, email sign-ups, and take pictures
- Complete all administrative work associated with this position (e.g., completing timesheets, submitting expense reports, etc) in a timely and accurate manner

- Educational background in environmental science/studies, climate adaptation, or a related field
- Experience with outreach/education, community engagement, and planning community events
- Comfortable working in busy and outdoor settings
- Reliable, self-directed, and able to represent CRWA professionally
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people from all backgrounds
- Commitment to CRWA’s mission
- Must be able to work on weekends and occasional workday evenings
- This position requires regular travel across the watershed; therefore, a valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle are necessary to perform the functions of this role
This is a non-exempt, part-time (5-20 hours/month) position concentrated in CRWA’s peak community engagement season:
March
- October. Some hours may be available in the winter months as well. There is no guaranteed minimum hours for this position, schedules will be created based on CRWA’s needs and candidate availability. Candidates with limited weekend availability will not be scheduled. Pay rate is ($25/hour). Mileage will be reimbursed at the IRS standard rate; other approved expenses will be reimbursed at-cost.
