The Institute for Justice & Democracy in Haiti (IJDH) brings Haitians’ fight for justice to places abroad where too many decisions about Haitian rights are made. Along with its sister organization, the Haitian-led Bureau des Avocats Internationaux (BAI), IJDH has helped Haitians, especially women and other marginalized people, enforce their basic human rights, in court, on the streets and in the court of public opinion since 1994.

IJDH coordinates advocacy coalitions, engages with members of Congress, pursues cases in domestic and international courts, documents repression and advocacy with the general public.

The Development Manager is responsible for advancing IJDH and BAI’s fundraising strategy and long-term organizational sustainability. The position leads foundation fundraising, supports individual giving initiatives, strengthens donor stewardship, and ensures fundraising operations, systems, and communications are coordinated and effective.

The Development Manager reports to the Executive Director and works in close collaboration with programs and finance staff, as well as board members and volunteers. The Manager has access to support from experienced fundraising consultants who provide strategic guidance, thought partnership, and supplemental support on major initiatives.

This role is ideal for a strategic and collaborative professional who is excited to contribute to a small organization working hard to make a big impact for Haitians under attack in Haiti and the US. A successful Development Manager will take initiative to effectively manage competing priorities and adapt to shifting organizational needs. • Contribute to annual fundraising plans, revenue goals, and development strategies.
• Identify opportunities to improve fundraising systems, processes, and donor engagement.

• Manage a portfolio of foundation funding opportunities through the full grant cycle.
• Write, coordinate, and edit grant proposals, reports, and other institutional fundraising materials.
• Track grant deadlines, reporting requirements, and funder communications to ensure timely follow-up and compliance.
• Build and maintain relationships with institutional funders in partnership with IJDH leadership.
• Conduct prospect research and identify new funding opportunities.

• Coordinate annual and special fundraising campaigns, including year-end appeals, digital fundraising
• Support cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of individual donors, including major donors.
• Work with program staff to identify compelling stories, program updates, and impact data for fundraising and donor communications.

• Maintain and continually improve the organization’s donor database and fundraising systems.
• Generate reports and analyze fundraising data to support planning, decision-making, and donor engagement.
• Help strengthen fundraising systems, workflows, and technology to improve fundraising effectiveness and efficiency.
• Maintain organized electronic files and documentation.

• Coordinate fundraising projects, campaigns, and deadlines across departments.
• Collaborate with communications, finance, and program staff to prepare fundraising materials.
• Support planning and logistics for fundraising events or donor engagement activities, as needed.

• Build and maintain positive relationships with donors, foundation representatives, consultants, volunteers, and organizational partners.
