Join today and help us achieve our Vision 2030 to make Boston the healthiest urban population in the world. Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) in Epilepsy, Department of Neurology, Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (BU-CASM).
The NP/PA will partner with and perform clinical duties under the supervision of the Division Chief of Epilepsy. The candidate will provide outpatient clinical care and some inpatient care in support of epilepsy patients and seizure-related disorders.
The Department of Neurology at Boston Medical Center is a full-service clinical and academic program offering treatment for diseases and disorders of the brain, nervous system, peripheral nerves, spinal cord, and related vessels. Our team includes experienced physicians and NPs who subspecialize in all major areas of neurology, with multidisciplinary programs in neuro-critical care, neuro-oncology, infectious disease, and cerebrovascular disease. ScheduleThis role is structured as a 4-day-per-week, 10-hour-per-day position. Alternate arrangements for full-time may be considered. Responsibilities include both shared clinics with neurology physicians and clinics and inpatient care where the candidate will function as an independent practitioner.
Responsibilities- Obtaining complete medical history and performing physical examinations.
- Ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies.
- Formulating diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Evaluating outcomes of patient care and updating care plans as needed.
- Setting priorities for effective management of patient care, considering time, resources, supplies, and equipment.
- Maintaining comprehensive medical records with relevant patient care findings.
- Maintaining an interdisciplinary approach to planning and communicating patient care within neurology and other departments at Boston Medical Center.
- Seeking and providing consultative and support services in the inpatient setting.
- Coordinating care for complex patients in collaboration with the Division of Epileptology team and leveraging community resources.
- Supporting epileptologists with care management using full licensed scope.
- Prescribing and/or dispensing medications as appropriate.
- May participate in patient care in any role deemed proper by the attending physician and in accordance with applicable law, hospital regulations, and privileges.
- Expert clinical judgment with initiative in an expanded role.

- Organizational skills to set priorities and complete tasks efficiently.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with health care team members, patients, and families.
- Computer proficiency to access, enter, and interpret data.
- Physical ability to meet job responsibilities in the clinical setting.
- Full command of spoken and written English.
- Commitment to caring for a diverse patient population.
- Master’s degree in nursing.
- Current license to practice as a registered nurse practitioner in Massachusetts with APRN authorization by the Board of Registration in Nursing.
- Registered with the ANCC or other accrediting organization for Nurse Practitioners.
- At least a bachelor’s degree and graduate of an ARC-PA-accredited PA program (or its predecessor).
- Eligible for the NCCPA PANCE and for PA licensure in Massachusetts.
Documentation of the Massachusetts PA license and initial NCCPA certification is required upon hire.
NP/PA-C Must Have- Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration.
- Federal DEA Controlled Substances Registration.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Clinical experience in a neurology setting or with a neurological patient population is preferred.
