Position Summary
As an RN in Boston Medical Center’s Surgical Step Down unit, you will play an integral role in delivering exceptional care for intermediate‑level surgical patients. Using our patient‑centered care model, you will be supported by a nursing organization that nurtures professional practice.
About the UnitThe unit is a 38‑bed Surgical Step Down unit serving post‑operative and surgical specialty patients including trauma, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, transplant, and cardiothoracic surgery.
Job Responsibilities- Deliver nursing care including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and education
- Communicate with multidisciplinary team members, patients, and families
- Coordinate and delegate patient care activities to inter‑professional colleagues
- Update and manage patient records, entering and interpreting computerized data
- Follow BMC nursing guidelines and policies
- Assist leadership in quality improvement projects as needed
- Active or pending Massachusetts RN license or ability to obtain one within 30 days
- 1+ year RN experience (preferred)
- BLS and ACLS certification (ACLS required for certain units)
- Diploma, ASN, or BSN (BSN preferred; BSN within 4 years possible)
- Relevant clinical experience or specialty certification as required by unit
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Physical ability to perform job duties
- Basic computer proficiency
- Fluency in another language is a plus
- Competitive pay range ($38.05–$75.33/hour)

Base pay is determined by education, experience, licensure, and certifications. Additional compensation includes benefits, contract increases, flexible spending accounts, 403(b) savings matches, earned time cash‑out, paid time off, and career advancement opportunities.
