The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is a member of the Adult Medicine Department within Health Services. This clinical position supports Dimock’s mission to heal and uplift individuals, families, and communities by providing equitable access to comprehensive health care and education.

This role provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and follow-up treatment for a full range of psychiatric and substance use disorders. Services are delivered to individuals in OBAT, inpatient, and residential programs, supporting integrated and continuous care across the continuum.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and biopsychosocial assessments, including co-occurring mental health disorders
  • Provide daily inpatient consultation for evaluation and treatment of patients with co-occurring mental illness in ATS and CSS settings
  • Diagnose psychiatric conditions in accordance with DSM-5-TR criteria
  • Provide medication management, including FDA-approved medications for addiction treatment (MAT/MOUD such as buprenorphine and naltrexone)
  • Manage acute psychiatric symptoms during withdrawal management and stabilization
  • Develop and review individualized treatment plans consistent with ASAM criteria
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care teams, including counselors, nurses, clinicians, recovery coaches, and case managers
  • Support safe transitions of care and discharge planning
  • Provide continued follow-up treatment as clinically indicated for OBAT patients
  • Coordinate with members of the patient’s care team (Primary Care, Therapy, Nursing, and other services)
  • Document clinical work and communications in the integrated electronic medical record
  • Monitor laboratory and clinical data as appropriate to ensure high-quality care
  • Participate in trainings, clinical supervision, and quality improvement activities
  • Participate in after-hours on-call rotation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Highly organized with timely, ethical, and accurate work completion; maintains confidentiality
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of DSM-V, diagnostic screening tools, and appropriate clinical interventions
  • Cultural competence and ability to adapt therapeutic interventions to diverse populations
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Receptive to constructive feedback
  • Demonstrates initiative to improve patient care quality
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, accountability and “grace under pressure"
  • Familiar with and competent in operations of electronic health records for documentation and clinical communication. Basic skillset in navigating databases.
Work Environment

Office-based with designated remote availability during on-call hours, which may be provided from employee’s home, at the Clinical Director and Program Manager’s discretion.

Physical Demands

Duties may require standing and walking, or sitting for long periods of time. Light lifting may be required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

The schedule is typically Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm with one possible “late day” starting at 11:00am and ending at 7:00pm. A typical day may involve scheduled individual patient visits, inpatient consultations, phone calls with patients or collaterals, care coordination with other members of the Addiction Medicine team or outside members of the patient’s care team, completing required clinical documentation, completing insurance reviews (as needed) or other time-sensitive administrative documentation.

Required

Education and Experience
  • Licensed Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Independent Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in good standing
  • Experience in a community health or integrated Behavioral Health setting is a plus
  • Multilingual language skill is highly preferred
