POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) participates in the delivery of patient care, providing direct clinical and support services to patients and families across the health care continuum.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES- Perform delegated patient care interventions within scope of role, under RN direction.
- Collaborate with RN to determine work assignments and priorities, and communicate status of delegated tasks and patient data findings throughout shift.
- Maintain timely verbal communication with RN regarding patient condition and notify RN immediately of significant changes.
- Introduce self to patients, visitors, and staff; wear name badge identifying as CNA.
- Accurately collect and record patient data (vital signs, intake & output, blood sugar, weights, restraint care/monitoring, etc.) and comply with documentation standards.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and seek assistance when appropriate.
- Assist with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients; complete functional health assessment upon admission.
- Prepare rooms for admission and ensure accurate identification bands throughout hospitalization.
- Transport patients and belongings, equipment, and supplies as needed during transfer/discharge.
- Conduct routine patient room rounds to address patient needs.
- Provide and assist with basic hygiene tasks: bathing, dressing, oral care, shaving, whirlpool baths, perineal and bowel care, foley care, condom catheter application, urinal/ostomy bag emptying, etc.
- Provide basic skin care: back rubs, diabetic foot care, non‑medicated ointments, elastic stockings, ace wraps, venodynes, turning and repositioning patients every two hours.
- Set up patients for meals and assist with feeding and container opening; record calorie counts and intake/output measures.
- Assist patient ambulation using safe techniques and appropriate equipment; apply safety devices as needed.
- Identify emergency or crisis situations and initiate appropriate response actions, communicating immediately to RN.
- Maintain competence in technical skills appropriate to unit assigned.
- Cooperate with all team members to provide support services and meet patient, family, and staff needs.
- Adhere to work rules, standards, and competency compliance; support positive work environment and resolve conflicts.
- Participate in staff meetings and in‑services; comply with policies, procedures, protocols, and regulations (DPH, JCAHO, Boston fire codes, OSHA).
- Dress appropriately per dress code, including uniform and visible hospital .
- Assist with orientation of new staff and serve as resource to float staff.
- Adapt to changing patient and unit needs; offer assistance to team members, float, adjust assignments.
- Communicate with charge nurse/supervisor to coordinate break periods.
- Maintain visibility on unit and avoid leaving work area without notification to RN.
- Provide non‑judgmental, non‑discriminatory care that respects patient diversity.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Perform environmental and inventory activities: clean rooms, restock supplies, dispose of waste, maintain equipment logs.
- Education: High School diploma or equivalency.
- Licenses/Certifications: Nursing Assistant License in Massachusetts or proof of enrollment in accredited nursing school and completion of "Fundamentals of Nursing I & II"; BLS certification from American Heart Association.
- Experience: Minimum one year of CNA experience.

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English; perform required mathematical calculations; lift, transfer, and move patients. - Compensation: $17.88 - $26.57 hourly based on qualifications.
