Position:
Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Float Pool
Location:
Med/Surg Float Pool, Boston Medical Center.
Schedule:
36 hours per week (Nights / Every Third Weekend).
The Med/Surge Float RNs provide 24/7 clinical excellence for medical/surgical and IMCU areas. The team includes about 70 RN staff with diverse clinical expertise. Float pool nurses care for adult and pediatric populations (over 15), IMCU patients, and patients in the Observation unit, and they rise to the challenge of opening and staffing surge units when necessary.
Responsibilities- Deliver nursing care in the Medical Surgical setting, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and patient education.
- Communicate with health‑care team members, patients, and families.
- Coordinate and delegate patient‑care activities to inter‑professional colleagues.
- Update and manage patient records and enter computerized data.
- Interpret data and information as required.
- Follow BMC nursing organization guidelines and policies.
- Assist leadership with quality improvement projects as needed.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- 1+ year RN experience preferred.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required;
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required in certain units. - Diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred). Ability to obtain BSN within 4 years.
- Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty, with certifications required for certain practice areas.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Physical ability to meet job responsibilities.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Fluency in another language is a plus.
