Position Summary
Registered staff nurse in Hematology/Oncology Triage/Clinic, operating under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager. Responsible for nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the health‑care continuum.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties- Administer ordered injections, pump disconnects, vaccines, and other clinically indicated procedures.
- Triage telephone calls from patients, families, and referring offices; assess acuity, direct callers to appropriate emergency services or follow‑up care.
- Conduct prescription refills, home‑care referrals, and record all interactions in the electronic medical record.
- Perform pre‑visit review of patient information (lab results, consults, etc.) to ensure provider readiness.
- Document vitals, medication reconciliation, health histories, and nursing diagnoses; provide patient teaching, counseling, and educational material.
- Schedule appointments for primary care physicians and specialists; notify medical practitioners of critical values.
- Assist with in‑office procedures (EKGs, PFTs, biopsy, bone marrow, minor surgical procedures) as ordered.
- Provide nurse‑only visits for BP checks, immunizations, injections, education, and other non‑physician services.
- Maintain standard nursing practice through quality assessments, efficient managed care, and patient satisfaction initiatives.
- Diploma, ASN, or BSN (BSN preferred). Ability to obtain BSN within 4 years.
- Active RN license in the state of Massachusetts in good standing.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Bio/chemotherapy certification; ONS chemotherapy provider card required; OCN preferred (obtain within 2 years).
- Minimum 1 year (2 years preferred) of nursing experience, preferably in hematology/oncology, emergency medicine, triage, or adult ambulatory care.
- Clinical skills in IV placement, wound care, drains, wound vacs, and minor procedures.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record systems and basic computer operations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Multilingual abilities beyond English are preferred.
- Physical capacity to perform job functions and manage stress related to patient care.
Base salary: $38.05 – $79.47 per hour (inclusive of education, experience, and licensure factors). Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, pharmacy coverage, 403(b) savings match, paid time off, career advancement opportunities, and employee wellness resources.
