Mass General Brigham’s Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit (Blake
8) is an 18‑bed adult critical care unit serving patients with cardiovascular disease. This leadership position oversees safe, high‑quality patient‑focused care, personnel management, clinical operations, and partnership development across nursing and other departments.
Accountable for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating nursing services at the ICU location and managing all operational services within federal, state, and regional regulations.
Responsibilities- Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate nursing services of the unit.
- Manage all operational services and coordinate with federal, state, and regional regulations.
- Evaluate and supervise staff based on mutually agreed‑upon goals in job descriptions.
- Implement strategies to enhance staff retention and reduce turnover.
- Promote a safe and positive working environment.
- Ensure RN supervisors/clinical care managers are aware of updated policies and procedures.
- Prepare and manage the departmental budget within guidelines.
- Assign patients for day‑to‑day management to nursing coordinators and/or Nursing Supervisors/Managers.
- Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with a Master’s Degree in a related field.
- Licenses & Credentials: Registered Nurse (RN – State License);
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred;
Basic Life Support (BLS) required. - Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in nursing management, with preference for cardiac nursing experience.
- Skills & Abilities: Proficient organizational and interpersonal skills; excellent critical‑thinking and problem‑solving; ability to remain calm in stressful situations; strong commitment to clinical excellence; knowledge of regulatory agency regulations.
