Job Overview

These roles focus on providing high‑quality patient care and promoting wellness. Advanced practice clinicians work collaboratively with physicians and other health professionals to diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions. Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing and implementing treatment plans, educating patients and families, and evaluating therapeutic responses.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Three (3) years of nursing experience.
  • Certifications such as ACLS or PALS may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of nursing experience.
  • Specialty nursing certification.
Responsibilities
  • Apply advanced nursing knowledge to care a caseload of patients in collaboration with the attending physician, including comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of common problems.
  • Provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
  • Perform procedures and treatments according to established practice guidelines and professional standards.
  • Order and administer drugs demonstrating advanced knowledge of pharmacology and medication monitoring.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment and use it safely.
  • Write clear, comprehensive initial and follow‑up notes; order appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
  • Plan effectively for home care and follow‑up as needed.
  • Initiate referrals and consultations with specialists when indicated.
  • Facilitate family and team meetings relevant to patient care.
  • Direct the medical/nursing plan of care, building collegial relationships with colleagues and peers.
  • Delegate responsibilities to others while understanding their roles, knowledge, and capabilities.
  • Facilitate collaborative relationships among disciplines and departments to ensure effective quality patient care delivery.
  • Maintain a collaborative work relationship, creating a positive work environment.
  • Serve as a nursing leader and role model to all team members; perform the role consistently professionally.
  • Influence others by establishing a climate for optimal patient care and professional development.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and utilize improvement principles.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings; read minutes when unable to attend.
  • Keep current with literature regarding changing practices, interventions, and research in patient care.
  • Seek out educational and professional opportunities for personal growth.
  • Meet mandatory education requirements and unit‐specific competencies.
  • Act as a preceptor to new NPs and graduate NP students as requested.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Prolonged standing or walking.
    • Lifting, positioning, pushing, and transferring patients and equipment.
    • Reach, stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch frequently.
    • Exposure to hazardous chemicals, sick patients, bodily substances, noise, and possible radiation, lasers, or electric shock.
    • Regular exposure to blood‑borne diseases and other transmissible infections.
    • Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
    • Ability to handle emergency and crisis situations.
    • Potential contact with hazardous materials.
    Skills & Abilities
    • Provide care to patients throughout the life span, considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
    • Provide primary care for a caseload of patients following practice guidelines and hospital policies.
    • Interpret age‑specific data and response to care; communicate age‑specific information.
