Summary

Under supervision of a Nurse Manager or licensed clinical leader and in collaboration with other team members, the LPN will provide direct and indirect patient care in accordance with the scope of practice.

Essential Functions
  • Interview patients about current problems, medications, allergies, and review medical record for pertinent information.
  • Measure and record patients’ vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
  • Provide basic patient care or treatments, including dressing wounds, treating bedsores, enemas or douches, rubbing with alcohol, massaging, performing catheterizations, routine immunizations, nebulizer treatments, and visual acuity tests.
  • Participate in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications under the supervision of a physician and registered nurse.
  • Answer phones, take messages, and perform triage within scope of licensed practical nursing practice promptly and accurately.
  • Collect samples (blood, urine, sputum) and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures.
  • Assist patients with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, moving in bed, or standing and walking.
Qualifications Education
  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
Licenses and Credentials
  • Current LPN licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (required).
  • Basic Life Support (preferred).
Experience
  • Prior nursing experience preferred.
Language Skills
  • Spanish language strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic patient education knowledge: interviewing, listening, teaching, and engagement techniques.
  • Ability to accurately perform vital signs and obtain pertinent health information.
  • Ability to administer medication via injections, intravenous, and oral routes.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform specific procedures and tests appropriate to the clinical setting.
  • Effective communication: professional, courteous, clear, and concise.
