Job Summary

The Nurse Program Manager for Radiation Oncology Network Research provides leadership in the design, implementation and evaluation of radiation oncology research and services in network locations. The role functions as a key facilitator for radiation oncologists in the growth and development of the clinical research program for all BWH/DFCI Network Radiation Oncology departments.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing input in the writing and review process of clinical protocols for active treatment and retrospective review.
  • Collaborate with study teams and train network research staff.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Longwood Radiation Oncology Center, the DFCI Network Lead Academic Participating Sites office, and the Dana‑Farber/Harvard Cancer Center network research manager.
  • Report to the Nurse Director of the network ensuring consistency among network sites.
  • Work closely with clinical research supervisors, nurses, and data managers in Boston and network departments.
  • Oversee and manage the Radiation Oncology Network Research program as directed by the Medical Director.
  • Identify and support research needs with MDs, RNs and clinical staff.
  • Provide input on resource acquisition and feasibility of new clinical trials.
  • Offer nursing and clinical expertise to investigators.
  • Develop databases and provide progress reports; utilize existing databases (e.g., PROMPT).
  • Collaborate with national research groups (RTOG, CALGB) and other protocol sponsors.
  • Educate investigators, nurses and staff on protocols, procedures, regulations and ensure compliance (e.g., CITI training).
  • Monitor adherence to OHRS policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Develop and implement quality control guidelines to ensure compliance with GCP and national cooperative group standards.
  • Provide clinical support for patients enrolling on protocols, including identification, education and coordination with the medical team.
  • Identify and mitigate potential barriers to data capture and analysis; ensure enrollment targets are met.
  • Deliver in‑service education and serve as a resource to the healthcare team.
  • Determine need for additional research staff and supervise recruiting, hiring, orientation and supervision.
  • Develop systems ensuring optimal communication among research entities.
  • Lead Network Research Committee and staff meetings.
  • Serve as liaison to various department offices and the Institutional Review Board.
  • Maintain awareness of current scientific state and advancements.
  • Attend relevant symposia, meetings, training sessions, workshops and journal reviews.
  • Participate in teleconferences and meetings regarding operation issues, study metrics, enrollment and deliverables.
  • Develop project status reports and communicate with teams and funding partners.
Essential Functions
  • Lead the development and implementation of clinical programs or services aligned with the hospital mission.
  • Provide leadership and supervise nursing staff within the program.
  • Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff across all categories.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care.
  • Develop and implement patient and family education programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations, accreditation standards and hospital policies.
Qualifications
  • Current Massachusetts licensure as a registered nurse.
  • MSN, MS (nursing major), DNP, PhD (nursing major) or BSN with a master’s degree in a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in oncology, clinical research or radiation oncology.
  • 1 year of leadership experience.
  • Radiation oncology experience highly preferred.
  • OCN certification preferred.
