Location: Med Surg – General Med Surg Unit, M6E

Schedule: 36 Hours (Nights / Even/Odd Weekend/Holiday)

About the 6 East Department

6 East is a 36‑bed Medical‑Surgical unit serving a wide range of general medical diagnoses. Prospective candidates must demonstrate cultural competence and professional integrity, and enjoy the variety of clinical experiences that Medical‑Surgical Nursing provides.

Position Summary

As an RN on the Medical‑Surgical unit, you will play an integral role in delivering exceptional, patient‑centered care. You will be supported by a nursing organization capable of enabling you to provide the high quality care your patients deserve.

Job Responsibilities
  • Deliver nursing care in the Medical‑Surgical unit, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and patient education.
  • Communicate with various health‑care team members, patients, and their families.
  • Coordinate and delegate appropriate patient‑care activities to inter‑professional colleagues.
  • Update and manage patient records.
  • Enter and interpret computerized data/information.
  • Follow guidelines and policies established by BMC’s nursing organization.
  • Assist the leadership team as needed in quality‑improvement projects.
Job Requirements
  • Licensed to practice professional nursing as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • 1+ year RN experience preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required for certain units.
  • Nursing degree:
    Diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred). Ability to obtain BSN within 4 years.
  • Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty; certification required for certain practice areas.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Fluency in another language a plus.
