Overview

Boston Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Nurse Practitioner to join our Level1 trauma center inpatient team. This role will collaborate closely with a team of 11 surgeons, 8 advanced practice providers, and the Boston University residency training program.

Responsibilities
  • Perform patient rounds, place orders, document daily notes and discharge summaries, and actively participate in multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Handle weekend shifts; night, holiday, or on‑call coverage is not required.
  • Provide diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and follow‑up under the direction of one or more physicians in the hospital setting.
  • Conduct age‑ and specialty‑appropriate physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines.
  • Apply the nursing process, supervise clinical practice, involve in research, provide consultative services, and serve as an inter‑ and intradepartmental liaison.
  • Educate, lead, and manage patient care across the continuum from preventative to acute care through discharge.
  • Maintain documentation and communication with all members of the healthcare team, patients, and families.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in nursing required.
  • Completion of an accredited educational program for nurse practitioners required.
  • Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, with authorization by the Board of Registration in Nursing to practice in an expanded role.
  • Registered with ANCC or other accrediting organization for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Registered with the State of Massachusetts and DEA for prescription writing privileges.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Minimum of three years of current clinical nursing experience.
  • Preferred: prior experience in a similar specialty and clinical setting.
  • Expert clinical judgment, self‑directed initiative, critical thinking, problem‑solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Full command of the English language, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to apply principles of adult learning to provide effective patient and family education.
  • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with the healthcare team, patients, and families.
  • Computer proficiency, including the ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data and information.
  • Physical ability to meet core job responsibilities in accordance with the practice setting demands for the patient populations served.
