Position Overview
Certified Nursing Assistant – Surgical floor – Seton 7E. Provides direct patient care which includes vital signs monitoring, assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), repositioning, blood sugar checks, and responding to call bells in collaboration with the nursing team.
Essential Functions- Provide superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards.
- Perform all patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse, functioning as an assistant to the nursing staff.
- Assist patients in getting in and out of bed, orient them to call light and side rails, and respond to call lights promptly.
- Stay with restless patients and use cough pillows as instructed.
- Assist in the collection and documentation of medical data, including vital signs, intake and output, and specimen collection.
- Support the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, and discharge tasks: prepare the unit, transfer patients to beds, assemble patients’ belongings, and accompany patients as directed.
- Assist with ADLs such as partial bed baths, shower and sit‑bath assistance, and serve food and beverages.
- Dispose of trash and linen, float within competencies to other units as needed, and comply with infectious disease policies and patient safety goals.
- Perform related duties as required by the unit or hospital.
- Report immediately to the Patient Care Director, a designated delegate, or the Registered Nurse for any deviation, unusual occurrence, or change in the patient’s condition.
- Notify the Patient Care Director of incidents and breaches in quality care immediately.
- Education: High School diploma or equivalency.
- Experience: Previous Nursing Assistant experience or one completed clinical rotation for nursing students.
- Skills: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English; perform basic mathematical computations required for treatment protocols; lift, transfer, and move patients.
- Certification/Licensure: Nursing Assistant Certification required; BLS required.
