Position Summary
The pediatric ambulatory nurse is an integral member of the healthcare team actively participating in patient care coordination and transition of care along the care continuum. The primary care nursing role focuses on health promotion through prevention, education and treatment in compliance with hospital policy and the provider’s plan of care. Primary care nurses educate patients and families in self‑care management, act as a patient and family education resource, and provide support for a variety of health topics;
they establish trust and build therapeutically effective relationships with patients and families.

- Schedule: Full Time, 36 hours (4 days), Days/Evenings, Rotating Saturdays
The registered nurse adheres to the rules and regulations of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. It is primarily responsible for professional performance and direct patient care. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation and coordination of care for patients and their families across the health care continuum. The registered nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality and fiscal patient care outcomes using the model of care designed by the nursing department and in accordance with established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines and standards of practice.
Educationand Licensing
- Nursing degree:
Diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred). Ability to obtain BSN within 4 years. - Registration and current RN licensure in the state of MA in good standing required or ability to obtain reciprocity license prior to start.
- Current basic life support (BLS) certification required. Some units may require PALS certification.
- Additional certifications may be required for certain practice areas.
- Basic computer proficiency including ability to access, enter and interpret computerized data/information.
- Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with various members of the health care team, patients and families.
- Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
- Multilingual skills in languages beyond English appropriate to patient populations served.
- Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty, certification required for certain practice areas.
- Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement research utilization projects.
- Ability to delegate appropriate patient care activities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills appropriate to patient populations served.
- Physical ability to meet core job responsibilities in accordance with practice setting demands.
- Ability to manage stress due to critical patient care issues, changing organizational climate and personnel issues.
- Knowledge of childhood/adult immunization.
- Knowledge of DME, VNA.PA and school forms.
- Telephone triage experience.
- PIV skills, if applicable to role.
- Knowledge of population health and relevance to practice.
- Familiar with care coordination and transitions of care in ambulatory practice.
- 2-3 years pediatric experience required, preferably in an inpatient setting.
- 1-2 years ambulatory experience preferred.
$38.05- $75.33 per hour. This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications.
