Position: Registered Nurse, PACU Outpatient/Inpatient Surgery (36 hours, Nights)

Position

Registered Nurse – Menino Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) – 36 hours per week, nights and every 3rd weekend.

Location

Menino PACU (Outpatient/Inpatient Surgery), Boston Medical Center.

Overview

The Menino Post Anesthesia Care Unit/Pre‑Operative Unit on the new integrated procedural platform consists of 52 bays. All bays provide intensive care monitoring as well as pre‑operative care. The unit functions as a high‑acuity recovery area stabilizing patients from the OR/Procedural areas after surgery.

Responsibilities

Adhere to Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing rules and regulations and provide direct patient care. Perform nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and families across the continuum. Manage clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes using the nursing department’s model of care and established agency policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.

Education
  • Diploma, ASN, or BSN (BSN preferred). Must obtain BSN within 4 years if not currently held.
Licenses & Certification
  • Registered Nurse licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Current basic life support (BLS).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to access, enter, and interpret electronic data.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for communication with health‑care team members, patients, and families.
  • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
  • Multilingual skills (beyond English) preferred.
  • Analytical ability to solve nursing issues and conduct quality improvement projects.
  • Delegation of appropriate patient care activities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical ability to meet core job responsibilities.
  • Stress management in critical patient care situations.
Experience
  • 1+ year nursing experience required.
  • Critical care experience (PACU, ED, ICU) required.
  • Previous or current PACU experience strongly preferred.
Compensation

Base salary range: $38.05–$75.33 per hour. Total compensation includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, 403(b) savings match, paid time off, and other resources to support employee and family well‑being.
