Position
Registered Nurse – Menino PACU (Outpatient/Inpatient Surgery) – 36 hours, Permanent Evenings, Every 3rd Weekend
Department OverviewThe Menino Post Anesthesia Care Unit/Pre-Operative Unit on the new integrated procedural platform consists of 52 bays. All 52 bays provide advanced Intensive Care monitoring as well as Pre-Operative care. Pre-Op and PACU function as a holding area for procedural patients requiring specialized cardiac and interventional care. The department also functions as a high‑acuity recovery area stabilizing many patients directly from the OR/Procedural areas after surgery.
PositionSummary
The registered nurse adheres to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing rules and regulations and is primarily responsible for professional performance and direct patient care. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the healthcare continuum. The registered nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient‑care outcomes using the model of care designed by the nursing department and following established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice.
Education- Diploma, ASN, or BSN (BSN preferred). Must obtain BSN within 4 years if not currently held.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Basic computer proficiency, including access, entry, and interpretation of computerized data/information.
- Effective interpersonal skills for communication with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
- Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
- Multilingual skills (beyond English) preferred for serving patient populations.
- Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty certifications required for certain practice areas (e.g., total therapy, epidemiology, peri‑operative areas).
- Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement research utilization projects.
- Ability to delegate appropriate patient‑care activities effectively.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills appropriate to patient populations served.
- Physical ability to meet core job responsibilities and practice‑setting demands.
- Ability to manage stress related to critical patient‑care issues and shifting organizational climate.
- 1+ year of nursing experience.
- Critical Care experience required (PACU, ED, ICU).
- Previous/Current PACU experience strongly preferred.
